There is not any difference. Windows has always spied and will do it likely also in future.
Is it better to use Windows 8.1 instead of 7? - Of course, but much better is to use Windows 10, because this is the only one, which is always updated and runs till now without any problems.

You dont mind Microsoft looking through your sensitive data when using Windows 10? How do you cope with that?

someone dropped on head when being born...

its obvious that both 7 and 8x are less in spying than 10
that is if you avoid updates that enforce wincrap 10 datamining, telemetry and whatnot

I wanna know is 7 less in spying than 8?
How are you sure the telemetry update is not hidden in a compulsory security update?

For now it seems that we know what most of the updates are, but truthfully we won't know if they do this in the future. Until or when/if it happens.

Does Windows Server 2012 R2 spy on user?

We all know Windows 10 spies on people. So does Windows 7 and 8 if updated with telemetry updates.
I am exploring the option of Windows Server to escape spying.
Are there any spying or telemetry updates sneaking into Windows Server 2012 R2?

    Hello

From what I know there are some telemetry updates on Windows Server 2012 R2 such as KB3068708
You're not "safe" with any of the Microsoft products :D

And if you plan using WinSrv2012R2 on a personal computer, not as a server, I don't think it is a very good idea ;)

I can't really see why people are so paranoid over it. Just block your server from accessing the internet if it does not need internet access (which is good from security point of view). Updates should be done by WSUS in these cases.

If you servers are internet connected and you are paranoid, don't store anything secure on it or use it for confidential actions.

I don't think he has a server. I think he wants to use Windows Server as an OS for everyday life ;)

Sorry I do not have a server, but Windows Server can run some everyday use software. I searched google for Windows Server and Spying, there were no results. Gave me hope it might be safe. Now you tell me it has telemetry update.....
There is no where safe from spying, what a messed up world.

Yes I know it can run most everyday software; but it's designed for a server, performance tweaks, drivers/features. Hiding from telemetry is not a good reason to use a server OS. I don't think you will EVER find a version of Windows/and solution that meets your needs, given very little is known about the telemetry content in different versions.

newer devices last few years also have chips on board that can be remotely turned on and accessed by gov/police or corporate if they own that property so software not the only spying part and probably satellite from above earth so regardless we can only do so much to live anonymously if we want to enjoy life and not fear and hide from it :)

Ubuntu 16.04 tracks your firefox searches

Did anyone else notice searching on Ubuntu 16.04 firefox DuckDuckGo tags a "-canonical" to the end of the search URL?
It tags some extra code to the end of the URL of other search engines too.
I thought Canonical decided to stop spying for Amazon, now it is spying for search engines.

The package Zeitgeist tracks Ubuntu usage, removing the package breaks the Launcher making Ubuntu useless.
