Yeah, I don't install all the updates either. I'm running Windows 9x in a virtual machine. And I install only those updates that are necessary for the operation of the operating system and old games. I used to store ready-made, configured virtual machine images. And then I realized that the very installation and configuration of the operating system is one and the same game. In general, Microsoft and Bill Gates surprise me. Why do they delete all data on legacy systems. They do not value their achievements. They would organize some kind of "Windows history" or "Windows fan" site ... where they would post outdated, unsupported systems and their updates. . ... let the elders remember, and the young learn... how it all began. and how they got there from dos and windows-1 to windows 11 x64.
Heh, I've been one of those who tried to get every last one of those updates (although, I've typically avoiding installing some extras, like DotNET). Heck, I'm not even saying that's wrong, but I'm realizing more and more, not all of them are 'necessary'. I agree with you too, when practically every update is available for 2K and beyond, what harm would come to MS from re-opening the floodgates for 9x?
Sometimes I see a thought posted that deserves more than just a 'like tag' added to the post. I fully agree that there is a lot of 'tech history' somebody should make an effort to save. Net history, too. Heck, I still have two complete TRS80 sets and even the very old true floppy disks; that huge manual we used to get with the purchase of the TRS80, and a lot of other related stuff. And I don't have a clue where all that stuff should go before I kick the bucket, which isn't so really far into the future now. Truth is, I'm very lucky to be alive right now. The med professionals took a chance with a rather hardcore chemo program and it worked. Yep, remembering history is a very good idea, in my view. But it sure doesn't come free. Anyway, this was supposed to simply be an "I agree" sort of post.
Beal and the MC have enough funds for such a project. "For your loved one, for your own glory - so that you don't forget. So that Windows remains in people's minds. Why not pay."
Checked in several languages. I found 25 identical files in the full version of IE6SP1 in different languages. The following files are the same in all language versions. Code: OK: AXA.CAB OK: AXA3.CAB OK: FILELIST.DAT OK: FONTCORE.CAB OK: FONTSUP.CAB OK: HHUPD.CAB OK: IELPKAD.CAB OK: IELPKAR.CAB OK: IELPKIW.CAB OK: IELPKJA.CAB OK: IELPKKO.CAB OK: IELPKPE.CAB OK: IELPKTH.CAB OK: IELPKVI.CAB OK: IELPKZHC.CAB OK: IELPKZHT.CAB OK: IESETUP.INI OK: JAAIME.CAB OK: KOAIME.CAB OK: MPCDCS.CAB OK: SCAIME.CAB OK: SWFLASH.CAB OK: TCAIME.CAB OK: USP10.CAB OK: VGX.CAB But there are two versions of vgx.cab. vgx.cab - 2002 and vgx.cab - 2004
Shwarc, I think you're a bit more nuts/obsessed about this than I am. I stop looking for the versions of IE that I already scraped up. Admittedly, they might be a bit mis-matched, but should work. BTW, when you say "everyone is looking", who's everyone?
