    ..no bueno..

    Got my usb floppy drive.

Computer starts with the "END" key method.
Drive seeks for a minute or so.
    Turns off.

    No bueno. :(

    I tried various file names.

Observation: Only some USB ports will be "actively working" during this method.

If you run it, it'll extract everything into %TEMP% folder/subfolder - it's gotta be something next to WinFlash. Check *.log files there too.

It supposed to unpack everything into some folder, than execute, than delete all stuff, except might be log.
Start it, but don't do any updates and don't close program.
Look in the same folder, or in %TEMP% - it's gotta be something...

Yeah, I run the BIOS exe fie and leave it their, but nothing appear in the temp folder, I try to search all HDD for some file which must be present in the pack such as WinFlash and their dll but nothing (even hiden file).
I also try to recovery BIOS by a USB thumb with miniDOS and autoexec to run BIOS exe file but no result. It is still bricked.

    I downloaded 1640_A12_win.exe
The file has multiple Rar!→ signatures inside and a batch file as well
    Code:
    del FlashAbl.ROM
    del WaitPolling.exe
    del mfc42.dll
    del msvcp60.dll
    del msvcrt.dll
    del PHLASH.INI
    del PhlashLc.dll
    del PhlashNT.sys
    del winhlp32.exe
    del WINPHLASH.HLP
    del WinPhlash.exe
    del ee1.bat

The ROM file you looking for is FlashAbl.ROM.
Shouldn’t be a problem to extract for experts (I’m definitely not the one)
I would suggest asking in general mod thread.

Confirmed – nothing appears to be extracted into TEMP or current folder during file run on non “Studio XPS 1640” PC.

    (OP)
You can open the 1640_A12_win.exe by ResScope or ExeScope, and export the resource of MY_ROM\166 to xxx.rar, then you can open the xxx.rar by winrar, FlashAbl.rom is there. This rom can be edit by Phoenix BIOS Editor.

Finally got D610, so I can confirm, it can be recovered from USB floppy only.
Depending on current BIOS version installed (or randomly?) it didn’t shutdown after BIOS recovery.
It apparently does something with USB stick, no recovery happens, but it does shutdown after ~1 min.
Having BIOS A05 I were not able to upgrade to A06 (!), but able to downgrade to A02 and then from A02 to A03. I guess, it was very first version, a little unstable, but it does the job.
D410 and probably D810 has same recovery BIOS (USB floppy only) – it can be identified by strings:
    back in the saddle again
off we go into the wild flashing yonder

    Execute that exe file.
Check what is the name of temp directory that will be used when you execute exe
    Create a batch that copies content of e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\SWD to c:\temp
    run that batch
    continue executing file

your pc will be flashed with desired version of firmware, but you will have complete contents of that archive in c:\temp

I have redone flashing 2 times, first time it was bios.bak file that was containing old bios, next time backup was containing new release.
