Or tell me what is the filename of DELL Inspiron 6400' BIOS to be renamed?

Try Ins 6400/1505 code name MM061 or KeyLargo. Good luck.

    Hi .
    My laptop is Inspiron 1520.
    I mistook BIOS update.
While updating my laptop is freezing.
After 1hour I pushed power button long time to shut down.

    What tool shoud I use?
    I couldn't find that tool.

Please tell me the name of tool or URL for download.

All you need is rename your bios file to WPH. Just try with default of phoenix - BIOS.WPH or BIOS.ROM or BIOS.BAK

I searched with winhex in the hdr file and did not find this data,,, what file are you finding these strings? Can you give further details please on what "Convert from rom to bin" means and how this can be done.

I could only find strings similar to this in d420 and vostro 1400 firmwares

    "ÃVERR?à0BIN......HDR..PC..1400"

Can someone please help I'm getting desperate now!!!! :)

Thanks Dan, will try this week with a few old 6400/e1505 boards. You say fat formatted memory stick works fine, I take it you mean fat16, right?

Well, it worked on the first board finally, after hours of frustration I tried it with 2 sticks of ram instead of one ???? What do you know! That did indeed make the difference!!!, quick read of the memory stick, rebooted on it's own....

memory stick formatted Fat16 with hdr files on it, will report back with more..

2CD board, Fat32 works as well!

Newer "recovery module" works with Fat32 and USB drives.
Older one with USB floppy only :-(
Didn't try either with [USB] CD-ROM.
It's was "discussed" several times in this thread - it's not that big still ;-)

ya, the thing that surprised me was that I had tried perhaps a dozen times with just a single 512 Mb stick of ram present, all else was the same with the exception perhaps of trying different ports as well as usb floppy, then when I put in a second stick of ram it worked flawlessly. Didn't re-brick my board to test that again but it really seemed like that was the thing that made the difference. Anyways I just thought I might post that in case others were having similar issues. 512 Mb ram should be lots for a Dos flash, no idea whether it was the amount of ram used or the fact that there were then two sticks present...

Sounds like the ram might have been dislodged, maybe it requires one of the rams to be in the first connector,, i don't know, Iv currently got an inspiron 1525 motherboard I cant get to boot! :( LEDs come on then off after a few seconds... anyone seen this?

DELL Vostro 1510. Just only one time it can be power-on with fan full speed after hold Fn + End keys pressed but no USB reading. Then nothing happen. Three LED indicator (NUM - Flashing, CAP - ON, SCROLL LOCK - ON), Fan does not spin any more. And the result is 25$ to re-programing the BIOS IC.

I have an Inspiron 1545 whose BIOS was upgraded from A03 (factory) to A14 (latest) and then Windows XP does not shut down properly. I need to reflash to an older version of BIOS, A05 . I’ve extracted 1545a05.hdr but aparently it does not accept the process of End key pressed, so nothing happens – the note boots normal with A14 version. I am using an USB flash drive with 32MB and FAT format. Any Ideas? Sorry for my English. Regards, Sergio
