Thank you for your continued help. I had been thinking about a different operating system. I shall install windows 7 and see where I go from there. I will keep you posted. Thanks again, Regards, Nigel.
What was the outcome changing the Windows OS version? I would like to know how the whole thing get solved at the end.
Good morning all, Just to keep you in the loop. I was unable to install Windows 7 because the Windows 8.1 installation is on a GPT drive. So I have reformatted the drive as NTFS and installed Windows 7 and am currently installing updates and drivers. It is a very busy time at the moment so it may be in to the new year before I report back. Thanks for your continued help and interest, Regards, Nigel.
Happy new year to you all. I used diskpart and cleaned the drive. Reformatted it to NTFS. I then installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on one partition and Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit on another partition. The Windows 7 operating system never crashed in the two / three days I ran it. I then ran the PC using the Windows 8.1 operating system and it hasn't crashed on that for the last three days. I updated the BIOS to the latest version available on the Acer website before carrying out the above and it still crashed. So is it a uefi issue, or is it some of Acer's "Bloatware" causing the issue? I had uninstalled all the Acer software but as I am aware they do leave bits behind. Thanks again for your continued interest and support, Regards, Nigel.
Good morning all, Since recovering the PC back to factory using a USB stick I created when the PC was new, it has reverted to crashing when idle. When I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 it was the pro version not the home, could that make a difference? Also the hard drive was partitioned and formatted using Windows 7 so I'm guessing not the same as it would be with Windows 8.1, could this be the issue? Thanking you all for your continued interest and help, Regards, Nigel
could me a few things....u eliminated the power supply.....u still have to check the mobo. memory, CPU , HD to see if their falling. good luck
Thanks for the reply MS User. You think there is still a possible hardware fault even though doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro it never shutdown? Thank you for your continued interest and help, Kind regards, Nigel
start it in safe mode with only bare minimum drivers and leave it alone, if it crashes its most likely a hardware problem , if you have more then one ram stick take it out and start it again if it crashes again switch memory sticks and start it again these are the easy ones to check , next is the power supply and mother board or the hard drive, as far as the bios goes some have a factory default setting which I would use until you find out whats wrong . it would be nice if you had an extra hard drive to swap out to try . hope this helps a little
