Hi there, this is my first post here, i have modded my bios with the hp slic 2.1 and am a bit confused about what to do to activate windows 7 i can activate vista fine but what do you need to do to activate windows 7, i don't want to use a loader. I found this info Install a certificate that matches the SLIC's brand of your new BIOS. Install an OEM SLP key that matches your edition of Windows. Can you use any oem key and is the vista certificate different to win7? Thanku in advance
Same thing...Install cert and serial Same commands from command prompt and everything.. Did someone tell you different??

Thanku again for the info 911medic, i've been doing so much reading i thing my brain is fried, i understang it all but the only thing that was stumping me was is the cert file the same for windows vista and windows 7 do you use the same one?
If you look at the Cert thread you can see that most of the slics still use V2.0 vista certs. There are a few slics that require new V2.1 win 7 certs. You said that you have a HP 2.1 slic so you can use the HP v2.0 cert. This cert can be used for both Vista and Win 7.
Thanku for the info Everilda, I think i have it now does it work the same way as xp's slp because i install that using a vlk key then install the bios files that pair with the bios string. So can you install win7 with one of the oem keys then after the install insert the cert file, that will change the key and pair it with the hp slic 2.1 in the bios. thanku very much, the people on this board are great and really helpful
Install without any key - simply choose not to activate automatically during install and choose no when asked if you want to install a key. You then have a 30 day trial period which can be "re-armed" a few more times up to 120 days I think. After install simply install the certtificate and the appropriate key and it will "activate" itself and you're good to go. I know all this stuff is already explained on these forums but if people go to the trouble of responding to your posts they could take a little trouble and explain it a bit more. Hope I've helped.
Thanku very much Rosco, i understand this now i wasnt sure if you had to use a key on install, i'll give this a go tomorrow, busy at the moment changing a faulty hdd in a HP Mini-Note 2133 and a fresh xp install.
