Exactly what you did? i tried by phone but i got, "This copy of windows is not genuine" after entering the numbers they gave me by phone on the activation window
Activation isn't working for me also, getting an error when going through the activation wizard saying try again later.
But the activation by key Media Center functions or not? What is the 0xC004C4AA problem and how can I solve its?
Got the 0xC004C4AA error on a clean iinstall using a retail pro dvd patched to media center with the data.dat file, any clues?
I did phone activation after that error, guess i was lucky and was just in time before they blocked it.
Faikees method still works use new data.dat(from a activated ProWMC system) and try to activate twice.
40 min ago reactivated 3 times with different product key but now it dosent work anymore. I guess they closed the loophole for good now.
My guess, they have configured the servers to recognize the KMS history of the data.dat If so then this trick if it will work at all would be on a much smaller scale, the moment a data.dat file is used enough to match the signature database it will be flagged and become non-genuine for activation. Once the knew WAT update for 8 is released I imagine it will flag previously activated installations as non-genuine. Not to be all doom and gloomy but MS is making a real effort to thwart us. My suggestion, take advantage of the upgrade pricing while it is available so you have a genuine license when you need it. hxxp://windows.microsoft.com/en-MY/windows-8/activation-errors Unable to activate Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. (Error code: 0xC004C4AA) You might see this error after you used the Add Features to Windows 8 app to upgrade your current edition of Windows. The Windows 8 Pro with Media Center edition can only be activated on PCs that had Windows preinstalled, or Windows was purchased on the Windows website or at a retail store. To fix the problem, you need to install Windows with the product key provided to you in an email or with the DVD. If you think you have received this message in error, contact a Microsoft Customer Support representative.
I don't think that's the way they do it. I've tried 3 wmc keys with different ways to activate. And even activating during fresh install doesn't work anymore.
I just took the data.dat file from a activated ProWMC and put it on a fresh install on a different system and it asked for my key, I put in a media center key and it activated.
I had a dreamspark key that was legally activated. I just tried adding wmc key and I am getting the unable to activate error everyone else is getting.
