You will not be able to activate with it. Keys on stickers are blocked from online activation.

In the email from M$ that send me the Product Key: "Microsoft will only contact you at the email address you provide to send you your product key and to remind you when the activation period for your product key is ending."

The 1st February will end our W8 activated?

I'm still at work, but couldn't resist getting the files ready for the big test... I'm really looking forward to this :tasty:

The free keys are very nice, but they're only useful to me if I can restore the whole setup in one go...
So thanks to MS for the free key, but just as much thanks (or more) to you for figuring this out!!!!

No. It means that you won't be able to use the key if you don't use it before February 1, 2013. That's what they'll remind you about. :D

So what happens if you have to reformat your hdd fresh? Are you able to use the "free" WMC key to install/activate that or do you have to restore your original activation THEN use the WMC key?

So many worried about re-installs, will the key work blah, blah, blah...
Don't we image our activated systems and re-install from there? Goes quicker and activation already in place  - no--brainer as far as I'm concerned anyway....

To those who successfully activated, is it safe to use a Microsoft account?

Of course there are pros and cons for both. A system setup disc is not necessary for a lot of people, so for them a backup image is enough. For me, I use both. I want to have a setup disc. And preferrably an unattended one.
At the moment I use a USB thumbdrive with WinPE_SE (and other live systems), so I can boot any system from USB, then i run WinNTSetup (by JFX), which allows me to install any OS from ISO's on the USB. Pretty powerful system, this way I can also install several different OS's to one PC.
So the short answer is: Some like image backups, others like setup discs, some like both.

No. Doing so will trigger every nuke in America to launch at Russia. Basically, you'll cause the end of the world as we know it. It's been prophesied that someone will attempt to log into their Microsoft account on December 21st and all hell will break loose. We're doomed!

I have got my keys after 41 hours of waiting and I have succesfully activated my Windows 8 Pro copy using one of that key. At first I got the message "Windows is not activated", but after restarting it's all good.

Maybe it is a stupid question, but now, if an update comes via windows update, it will pass the validation?

    Thanks it advanced.

Just added my key 15 minutes ago, everything worked without a hitch. KB2756872 was the only update I didn't have installed at the time.

Did you enter a real email adress or an instant-mail-account. Used both and had trouble with keys sent to instant mail adress.

Normally only service packs an special fixes ask for genuine version. Time will tell. Security updates work allways.
