I checked mine and the Windows rearm count: 999

I used the Windows 8 Pro with WMC and the free MS WMC key

    What does that mean?

    Thanks,
    Bob

Nothing. Rearming and rearm count in Windows 8 is pretty much irrelevant.

Be patient, you have to wait at least 72 hours. The serial you will get.

After I threw the towel in the ring yesterday, Kelorgo gave me enough New Hope to pick up testing again. So I just finished that test on my testlaptop:
    - Setup with ProWMC (iso made with the "Create a AIO with MediaCenter only"), using my own "clean" data.dat
    - slmgr /ipk ..... (My ProWMC key), activate online (and receive the desired error C004CAA)
    - Disconnect internet, sc stop sppsvc
    - Replace data.dat with Wazzup's data.dat
    - Install key again slmgr /ipk ..... (My ProWMC key)

And it works!! Thanks Kelorgo, I almost "threw away" my ProWMC images from the 7-in-1.wim
Now, the next test I'll do is to install with another image from that wim: The one that has the ProductKey already installed (DISM /Set-Productkey). That's the image that gave me an activated system immediately after setup (until a few days ago). If I understand things correctly, after that setup I *now* only need to carry out these steps:
    - (maybe): Slui (to confirm the error)
    - Disconnect the internet, sc stop sppsvc, copy over wazzup's data.dat, slmgr /ipk ..... (My ProWMC key)

It looks like those steps could easily be put in some kind of Autoit/ Autohotkey script. That way, I'll still have a completely unattended Windows 8 ProWMC setup, that only requires 1 extra script to run, to get activated.
... until Microsoft's next "surprise", of course.
Still, very interesting stuff, thank you very much Kelorgo, WazzupSuperfly, and others!!

Why my ISO doesnt work anymore? The same problem, Windows cannot be activated, but it could be in the past. I activated it 3 times on this machine (yeah, I was reinstalling it 3 times lol) and yesterday I could not. I found some info on neowin and then came here...

Also, thepiratebay torrent uploaded by murphy doesnt work anymore. Do I need another data.dat file to activate Windows 8? I was using my own I got from installing Windows 8 in a VM, using KMS server, WMC key and then copying out data.dat file

My last test also succeeded: I installed using a ProWMC image, that has a clean data.dat in it, and a pre-set ProductKey. Of course, fully automatic activation doesn't work anymore, as it did up until a few days ago. But the only steps required after the clean install (using this particular image):
    - Disconnect internet, sc stop sppsvc, wazzup's data.dat --> c:\windows\system32\spp\store, slmgr /ipk .... (ProWMC key).
    - Confirm with slmgr /dlv
    - Reboot, watermark is gone

No, you have to make two activation "runs", the first one online (it will, and should, fail), the second one *offline* (with your key)
