I already tested wazzup's data.dat in the ISO, entered key, no go... (as expected, once I understood Kelorgo's brilliant post).
You *can* use that data.dat, but you still need the two runs. (=replace data.dat)

Thx but one last question: Do I need whazzsupsuperfly's data.dat or I can use my own I have on my ISO?

Plantroon, I just did a test to check exactly that:
    - For the first online activation, you can use the (previously working) data.dat (I used a "clean" version).

    - For the second offline "activation" (wrong word...), you should use whazzup's data.dat (as far as I can tell).

There is one problem when continually using the same data.dat file the activation date will be the same for many, many. It ends up then MS only has to search for activations on that date .. Like has been discussed we have to figure away to change day of activation and new working data.dat files

Untitled.jpg ... I did not disconnect from the Internet during the installation and only used data.dat from my past installation, also I did not need to stop the service for the first time :)

Mentioned here too, that this is not needed in every case, but better stay on safe side.

Thanks Kelorgo. At redroad (and your) suggestion, I did just do a test with a data.dat I found in a ATM backup I still had (discovered it by accident). It gives me an activation date of 10/29!
It's just that I was pretty excited when the first test went OK, that I really wanted to keep that particular data.dat, but now I see that there are alternatives....

Well, just wanna mention that a data.dat which was previously activated with the "burned kms host key" and an added wmc activation might also get banned/deactivated in future validation checks.
Safest way imho is to at least activate one legit pro key for your own, added with a free wmc license [fully legit up to this step] and then use this generated data.dat for future "data.dat"-swapping tricks FOR YOUR OWN systems.
You shouldn´t release this data.dat anywhere. This might be the safest way, despite it´s bad for the community because of no shared files.
At least I think m$ will ban all too much used files/ways of activation. This time they showed they can and they will.

    @Kelorgo
So all those saved up free WMC keys I've got might have some life in them yet - as your data.dat method works a treat:)

I've apparently done something wrong. I've followed Kelorgo's method several times and I get all kinds of different codes. I did a clean install of Windows 8 WMC from a retail ISO. I input my WMC key from MS during the installation with my PC disconnected from the net. Windows loaded up and it showed that I had a Product ID, but wasn't activated. So I followed Kelorgos method, but once I moved the new data.dat over that I got from here, I no longer have a Product ID. I try to add my WMC key again through CMD, but I get error 0xC004F061 (Trying to input a upgrade key in for a full install). I've also tried a clean install without inputting the key during the installation, but once windows loads up I still get the same 0xC004F061. I'm starting to give up hope, can someone shed some light on what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

Well... Just a thought, but can anyone confirm that the WMC-Keys which are used in this "double-swap" method are really get activated at microsoft?
Thought belongs to if machine gets tricked into thinking it is activated, but it really isn´t... What happens when the keys should get no more activatable at the beginning of february?
Will they continue to work even not really registered? So as long M$ won´t ban the machines because of the data.dat one WMC key should be enough for everyone?^^

I am pretty sure they do when you do the initial online activation attempt. Despite the 0xC004C4AA error code, the key gets registered at MS and gets tied to your hardware. There are several pieces of evidence pointing to this:
    • The system wouldn't turn to Licensed status when you input the key the second time, without a proper response from MS server getting recorded in tokens.dat
    • If you try to use a new key that you "activated" with this method on a different PC, then instead of the 0xC004C4AA error code, you get told that it's already in use on a different PC.

I agree. I found your second point to be true.

    (1) Could someone point me to Kelorgo's Data.dat please...

    (2) Since it's hard to keep track when rapid changes happens, could someone point me to, what's working after the MS "fix", please...

    Thanks a million guys :)
