Agree with this...that´s why i point to your method, to avoid problems. Was only testing the possibilities .

 

Lets, say we used this method to activate, by upgrading Win Pro (KMS) to Win Pro WMC (upgrade key). If we do a fresh install after Jan 31, how would we restore activation?

Before seeing the solution for the Block. I have also seen the error message. What I did was uninstalling the product key using "slmgr /upk" and then copying "data.dat" once again. All works well. I don't know how long will it last. But at least it activated.

i've activated win8 proWMC with key from free upgrade to proWMC, doing update several times, login using microsoft account and sometimes change it back. till now there's no message that my windows fake or something like that. and the license changed from VL to retail, i just want to know, is that mean my windows genuine?

Ok, just found this out about M$ block.

Now if I get this right, if you have an old Windows 8 WMC activated (pro via KMS) your data.dat file is now in a way valuable.

At present its unlikely M$ wont try to chase down all those activations as it would be too much trouble, and not that widely used til it went viral.

Now I think I have got the gist on how to use it, so basically my question is simple. (more wanting confirmation). As long as I don't go stupid, I can use my data.dat file to activate other machines in relative safety

And the second question, if I obtain a data.dat file from a
WMC machine that is truly and legally activated, that can be used in MORE safety on other machines, as there is no reference to any KMS activation.

Everything is working fine on my Windows 8, fully updated, I also have Visual Studio and some other s...t from M$ installed but there are some logs repeating every two hours or so in the event viewer: Acquisition of genuine ticket failed (hr=0xC004C4AA) for template Id {88d92........
What does that mean?

which ever part give you that ... you need to fix... (ps: i'd remove the S...t) that is probably your none genuine...

Hi, I had installed Windows 8 and registered it via the KMS method and everything was working fine. Then I got my Windows Media Center upgrade key, upgraded, but the activation is giving me the 0xC004C4AA error. I seem to be stuck now as I can't re-register using the same method as before since my Windows version changed from Pro to Pro with Media Center. Will my copy stop working after so many days, or will it just keep bugging me that my copy isn't genuine. Is there anyway to fix this short of starting all over?

Awesome, it worked. But what does it mean on the last step of backup activation? Do I just backup that data.dat file somewhere in case I need it later? Thanks!

is there a way to do a slmgr -ato and track the data it sends and to where, and then block the IP address of the server its contacting so it will never be able to check its activation again? surely there is a specific ip address it tries to contact to verify activation

 

why would you want to run that, if you are using the free wmc key, then is not needed

i thought this would just break any activation, as you are trying to activate it again - no?
