My thoughts exactly, it should be possible but if the update server is same as the activation server this will block updates as well.

Regarding data.dat (being retail and not kms) i'll probably use the ones from whazzupsuperfly or from kizo2703, these should be good to go..right?

its better to install win8 pro, activate with kms and add the wmc or install Win8 ProWMC using XDELTA patch ?

or its the same thing lol

just to know with one provided better results

 

Both are basically the same.

One setup requires you to manualy swap the data.dat, as the delta patch inserts the same .dat files in the iso.

just 1 more question or 2, i know that its great that we can get it proper full activated with WMC instead of the 180days KMS but... seeing that they "simply?" overlook this workaround on the MS WMCBlock, isn't risky to say that they will shut down the workaround also?

I know that there is no WGA yet on Win8 but isn't better now to install a Win8 (pro or ent) with KMS instead of WMC for better chance of not blocking from MS ? or with the future WGA Kms and WMCs both will get down?

from history of Vista/7, isn't KMS more secure to install right now?

Also if not mistaken isn't possible to downgrade from WMC to PRO or i'm wrong ?

To be clear if you are setting up an OS W8 with your data on it based on any method so far you are crazy .. This is for testing .. I am still using W7 as main OS until I am certain that W8 meets my needs and I have a bomb proof backup/recovery in place

 

That MS simply "overlooked" this loophole is "the" question.
Could be that MS did it on purpose, so they can finetune the future WGA check.

If you really want to be safe: Buy a Win8 upgrade key and add WMC feature.

No option to downgrade WMC back to pro.

Win7 is safe for now, using Daz loader.

Ok if you have successfully activated with the WMC key before the door is shut you are not permanently activated like some people claimed, I tried to check using slmgr -alto I deactivated my copy and had to use the whatsupsuperfly Data.dat file. This does work.

I also used slu 3 command to put in my key.

 

sure, with genuine activation you are out of updates and upgrade troubles.

 

So what if someone shared a data.dat from a legally activated copy of Win 8 Pro with the free WMC upgrade?

That should work.

 

it should have no problem upgrading just use the free windows 8 pro WMC key, i did that with my dreamspark key
(without having to replase the data.dat file)

 

still not work. replacing data.dat allows only "local genuine activation". (disabled when running slmgr -ato)
free wmc upgrade checks for a "valid" online pro activation "data+tokens".
