That is absolutely not true. As long as you are using the same key on the same machine, it can get reactivated forever. ​Same goes for the WMC upgradekey.

 

I have been unable to get past the Win7 key they are asking for, so that option doesn't work for me. I am sure there are others in a similar situation.

 

Then purchase a key for $40. Its still dirt cheep compared to the Windows 7 upgrade prices.

 

If you change the configuration to your own hardware (such as adding a simple hard drive) ... it will only re-activate once more.

 

You obviously have no idea do you? The only way that would take effect is if you got a whole new motherboard. I would know because I have swapped out muliple hard drives before and have been successful to reactivate. Even if it came to that point, you could always phone your activation in so please stop trying to make excuses to be a pirate....

Was meant to repeat the process once again. If still not working, you can try data.dat posted by kizo2703. Can´t find his post so download attached version .

 

I would not spend $40 on Windows 8 and the $15 upgrade is not a reliable alternative for most.

I am using it now as more of a curiosity than anything else. Windows 8 doesn't suit my work flow.

 

See, being out of curiosity is perfectly fine but for everyone else who is pirating it for their default OS, come on.. Just buy it.

Microsoft Advocate let's first try it .. I have an original Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. And was being told that Windows 8 is so fast ... and that it's so bad at the same time (because of the touch-ui) that I still have mixed feelings about it anyway piracy or not .... and lets face it ... many over here feel it's more of a challenge than anything else

 

You're the man it worked One last question does this mean that if I re-install from any other iso (containing windows 8 pro) will I be able to use the same data.dat (assuming it's the same machine?) Hopefully I will get to try the new os properly now!

 

Actually I'm not making excuses arrrr I just told you what I read arrrr . They stated clearly that if you do some hardware changes arrrr to the system configuration (they also stated it ought not to be drastic arrrr a change) then you would not be able to re-activate arrrr . Thanks for pointing out that it has to be something more drastic arrrr than a hard drive. I'm still at page 12 of the manual arrrr I will send you a copy arrrr

 

Best will be to store different versions of data.dat, regarding the one from system-path.
Did myself a complete image backup of Win installation (Acronis True Image 2013), restoring takes less than 10 minutes .
You can also backup activation with tool by Josh Cell from third link in my sig. You should create a Pro WMC ISO, so on same machine you can install Pro WMC and reactivate with ATM afterwards.
