Thank you! The solution on page 64 worked. Now how do i make it show the "correct" activation date as today? I read something about that in a large span of pages but can't find it anymore. >.<

Not true you can reactivate as many times as you want

It is even better than that. Not only you can reactivate on the same machine, but you can transfer to other machine as long as you deactivate first one. This is quite different from W7 OEM that was limited to only one machine.

Actually I have installed an upgrade yesterday and the install did not ask for any key. So it looks like thay may have removed the need to provide previous installation key.
Otherwise you can use the following trick if you want to install fresh with an upgrade key.
Install on a newly formatted (or unformated partition) advance option - at some point the install will ask for previous installation information.
Now you just need to install again but this time instead of doing a clean install you do an update install on the same partition where you have installed W8. This time the installation should go through Of course you will need to remove the windows.old directory

Not true you can upgrade hardware as much as you like. But on major change reactivation will be required

 

Upgrade install is not mandatory, you can do a clean install by choosing custom installation and remove previous partitions.

honestly the interface i'd give it a 50/50 vote, but the underlying tech of windows 8 & 2012 somehow balances my decision for using this release primarily, what id want to see MS develop for Sp1 is a better desktop start menu, (integrate a somehow similar start menu to the charms bar maybe), want to use the tablet ui hover over the old left bottom corner, want the desktop start, hover over the right. (just a suggestion). you have to admit, aside from the UI, 8 is really a better OS over 7

@rrohela: I have bought an update key for 30€ and therefore I now have one fully activated genuine machine with retail key.
I also have two machines where I have installed W8 Pro WMC directly from an iso that I have made. One of the machine was activated online before M$ closed the loophole and one was actiivated just after the fix (12/12) over the phone.
Both machine are correctly activated and working fine however if I do a slmgr /ato they both become deactivated and I have to use ATM to get them back activated.

From what I understand, follolwing you method, I should be able to use the data.dat from the retail activated machine to get a fully activated and genuine machine using an unused WMC key (right?).

Unfortunately I do not have anymore unused key to do the test (hopefully I should receive one).
So what I am trying to achieve is to use the data.dat file from the activated retail machine to get genuine state on my 2 already activated but non-genuine machines. I have tried several tests but so far without success.
Do you think there is a way to use your method, or something similar, to render an activated non-genuine machine to an activated genuine machine?
I hope that I am clear in my questions?

 

I am not clear on this point : if there is no genuine check for windows 8 yet how are you distinguishing between genuine and non-genuine?
and if you run slmgr /ato on retail don't you end up with same result as others?

I call genuine a machine activated where you can use slmgr /ato and still be activated
I call non-genuine a machine activated where when use slmgr /ato you get deactivated with error 0x0C004C4AA

And yes on the machine that I have installed with the retail (upgrade) key I can do as many slmgr /ato that I want - must admit I was scared the first time

What is scary is that all my machines activated with WMC keys are subject to get deactivated with error 0x0C004C4AA as soon as M$ will somehow force activation check. Currently once activated, and if you do not change your HW, Windows does not seem to find any good reason to check the activation again. But not sure in the future ...
Sure you can save and restore the activation state with ATM but if you need to do that too often it will not be acceptable anymore.

Can you be more explicit?
Originally I have been able to get several keys without problem but now it is getting very hard. I have tried just to provide a different email address as it used to be possible but now this is no more sufficient.
So I have changed the IP (I have a provider whith dynamic IP address) and retry but still failed.
So I went to another computer with different OS (Win XP) a different IP and tried again still failed.

This is where I have noticed that now when you reach the M$ page a script is executed and this is probably where they get the information (FYI if you raised the security in your browser so that script are not executed - then it is no more possible to send the request for the key).

Si it look like you need to:
- use different IP (almost sure)
- use different email (per definition).
- seems that you also need address from different domain ?
- seems that you need to use a different machine ? (do they store some sort of machine/browser/os/??? IDs)

From the description you can see that I have used a different machine different IP but reused the same address that was rejected the first time and it was also rejected ...

Bottom line : would be interested that you share your experience about what needs to different so that a request is accepted ?

 

Luck because in fustration i tried some 10-15 times with different id and thought it will never work but after couple of days (17 days) got all.

 

After running slmgr /ato run slmgr /dlv & that shows as NOT GENUINE. This is inbuilt check, yes no online check available.

If your fully activated genuine system is WMC upgraded too then you can use that DAT file else first upgrade that WMC & then use DAT file.

Second on two non genuine machines i think you used two different wmc keys so they are bound to those machines & no need to wait for new keys. You can use those keys just use same keys respectively.

 

I am not taking about the fact that it takes a lot of time (usually over a week) to get the keys

But currently when you enter your email & captcha and you are often receiving a message that says: "Nous n'avons pas pu traité votre commande" (we were not able to procees your order) and a link "conditions d'utilisation" (usage condition) where they explain that you are entitled to make only one request !!!
and my question is what are they recording so they can recognize you ...

 

I have been able to "reactivate" my already activated machines with the data.dat method using their respective WMC keys.
But they are still non-genuine so they are in the same state as before I tested the data.dat method (not very usefull)

When I will receive a new WMC key do you think that I will be able to use the data.dat file from my "retail W8 Pro machine" and used it on another machine to "render it genuine" the WMC key ?

 

On your both pcs place data.dat from genuine PC & install same data.dat key online(WMC key of genuine PC).. You will get error message that " key already in use on another computer". Then go offline & again install its previously used key & restart. This time use phone activation & after activation, backup activation & then go online run /ato & then see.

 

Just tried to check if they accepts new request from "same system" "same OS" "same ip" "same email id ([email protected])" and the result is

Also just got the key in my inbox just now, so keep trying
