    Hi all,
My question will be basic : What do I have to do to activate a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard in a Hyper-V virtual machine (The Hyper-V itself is activated using an official MS key) ?
    Thanks

    Thanks sebus.
I have tried to understand this thread but it's still unclear for me....
    A few questions :
    1) My main concern is : does this registry change affect all other VMs running on this Hyper-V server ? (I have currently 15 VMs and would only like to activate 1 because all others are Windows Server 2003 VLK keys)
    2) It's still unclear to me how this modification should be done ... Is it in the VM or on the Hyper-V server itself (it's a Windows Server 2008 Standard (not R2)) ?
    3) I still don't understand if and how to activate Windows Server 2008 R2 in a VM...
    Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot, I'll check this VMWP.EXE you are talking about.

Edit : Thanks ZaForD. I have the version I need for my server.
One more question : If I change the vmwp.exe file on my server, will I have to re-activate all legit versions of Windows Server 2008 servers running in VM I have ? (I don't expect to have the same problem with my Windows Server 2003 that are currently running because they use VLK keys)....

And how do you have the Windows Server 2008 servers running in VM activated?
If my KMS/MAK keys then no, you should not need to do anything

But you could also convert your legit versions to OEM in worse case, right?

I have only 1 windows Server 2008 R2 running in VM .. and it's not activated.
The rest is Windows Server 2003 with VLK key
I'll test all this and let you know.
Thanks anyway. I have tested Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise VMWP modded and it works perfectly.

    @SLRVision39,
    I don't have any 2008 VLK/MAK VM's so I can't say for sure.
But if Sebus says they'll work OK, thats good enough for me. :)

My 2003/XP VLK VM's didn't even notice the change, It was only the OEM Vista/7 VM's.
They are Activated with the modded version, and Not Activated with the orignal.
My guess is OEM SVR2008/R2 VM's will do the same. ;)
