Yeah. That's most logical. I will try this on my other machine with retail activated Windows 8 later. Many thanks for all the effort! Cheers!
My Windows 8 is PRO without Media Center, I made the backup with Beta 6 then restored the same Windows 8 PRO after I made a clean install, I got the error but windows is activated. I didn't get any errors in Beta 3. And the product key is without Media Center.
Do you've installed your Windows 8 Pro and activated it using this retail key without problems? It's paranormal, one time that the upgrade keys is really valid only for W8Pro with Media Center.... I'll make some tests on my systems and back again with the results.
When I got the Retail DVD I upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 PRO, activated and made the backup of the activation with ATM Beta 3. Then a few days a go I reinstalled again by doing a fresh install and resotred the activation with Beta 3 without any problems, I wanted to do the same with Beta 6, install a fresh windows 8 and restore the activation, I got the error message but windows is still activated.

Please try these steps: 001 - Your product key is only valid for upgrade reasons, 002 - You need of convert your Windows 8 to upgrade, 003 - At first, you need to edit these registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE 004 - Go to on your command prompt as admin, and type: 005 - Restart the computer 006 - Try to restore the activation with the Advanced Tokens Manager again 007 - Post your results. Yeah, I'm working on it to make a way to solve these problems with Upgrade keys from the Win7 to Win8Pro, the Win8Pro to Win8ProWMC was been solved since BETA 4.
NO. Because the activation system from the Office 2013 on Windows 7 is totally different from the activation system of the Office 2013 on Windows 8... But you can restore it on older systems than Windows 7.
Thanks for the prompt reply. So, on Windows 8, do I need to have both activated, Windows and Office, to make and restore backup of Office?
You need to have the both activated when you're making the backup. You only need of the Windows 8 and the Office 2013 installed and unactivated to restore your activation.
I've detected an issue on the license detection, that is flagging the system as activated when it isn't. Making some tests to solve it + grace license detections + solve the problems on the upgrade Win8Pro keys.
I've concluded that for Upgrade Activations is needed the RETAIL EDITION of the product for restore without any problem. I'll add a note about that on the app on the next version, that will be released soon.
With beta 3 I could make the backup of windows 8 without problems. With beta 6 it tells me that: sorry, the product key detected not match with your installed license. Please input exact correct key into box, and check if it is correct. I have both windows 8 and office 2013 activated.
