    You would have to have a Windows 8 Pro (Activated) to make the backup.. ;)

    Sorry, I was with some personal problems and unfortunately offline at these days.

    @XitoxReturns

    You need to install the Windows 8 with Media Center or convert the Windows 8 Pro to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center before restoring with the application.

    You will receive an error message when the edition not match.

    I got it to work, but it gives me a key fro win 7 that is different than the sticker the box has on the side, then it refuses to save it saying it wants the original key, and when I type in the number on the sticker it fails. ? same goes fro office.

    any ideas?

    you can remove WMC from the program and features in the control panel, just click the left top link in the windows that says "turn windows features on and off" when the little window pops up UNclick the "MEDIA FEATURES" this will un-install it and windows media player too

    edit: that's the reason I'm in here I'm about to uninstall w7home premium that came on this Acer Aspire M3450 I can't get my new Ceton Echo to work with WMC it keeps dying. the Echo seems to work fine on my 32 bit computers but not this 64 bit bloatware Acer version. and I wanted to backup the win7 certs so as not to go thru hell re-installing it. but I will do it no matter what, there's always more than one way to skin a cat

    If windows 7 came pre-installed on your machine and was already activated then the original key used would have been an OEM:SLP key where as the one on the side of your computer is OEM:NONE:SLP key to use that you need to call MS

    Brother first of all you just brought back a flood of memories with that Commodore avatar . ok so let me ask a dumb ? the ATM program is showing me this windows key that is totally different than the OEM:NONE:SLP any ideas if that will work ?

    I just finished doing the call to MS 2 weeks ago on a old Dell so guess I will do it if need be. have to get that Ceton Echo running of this machine as it will be the Home entertainment machine for the forseeable future and sendind back the Verizon boxes ;) 60.00 per month savings is worth my time.

    Can't recover my activation anymore. I've reinstalled my Windows 8 numerous times, with the same process and always succeeded to restore activation using ATM, now I can't anymore, as I get a reply that "The backup doesn't match". I've used the same WMC key, and the same installation Pro key, and installed the same Office 2013 Pro Plus x64 Retail suite, activated using a serial and a telephone. Can anything be done? And I can't find any logs around..

    No, my backup is stored within the ATM folder.

    EDIT: I fixed the problem by downloading an older version (RC3) and restoring using that version.
