What about googling a bit before writing your usually wrong suggestions?

The extended support for 2012 r2 ends in 2023!!!

I still use Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition x86 and still works.
A machine connected to any network won't ever be 100% secure, so...

your 100% correct my point is the way technology is now by 2023 will running server 2023 why would be stuck in 2012 in the end u have to change with the times....u know your support ended last year....that srv 2003 is already a security risk.

You have still no idea about the topic.

    NO WHS 2011 isn't 32 bit only

NO WHS 2011 isn't based on Server 2003

NO there isn't any hurry to switch from 2011 or 2012r2 to 2016. As the 2008r2 is supported until 2020 and 2012 R2 until 2023

From now to 2023 everything can change, maybe we will have a pocket quantum computer on that year.

Maybe MS will file bankruptcy before that year, maybe everyone will run Android or a brand new OS on servers, maybe the concept of personal servers will be completely outdated, given the cloud hysteria, maybe...

So think about what is right for you NOW, and don't waste your time with fantasy forecasts about the future of personal computing.

all windows server OS Supports there full Filesharing tools. Windows did develop a fileshaing OS but no longer supports it.
If you have a windows domain, the windows server OS is the best way to go, it gives u great control on permissions and is very brilliant.
Plex server is also what i run on my fileServer to stream movies and music etc...
with a windows domain you can do file redirection. which auto backups alll your files.
