Proof that Microsoft rushed a half-baked product to release.

It sure is a lot better looking than this butt ugly flat metro windows BS look.

What was MS thinking? They have been working for years to make Windows look better and use advanced graphics to make the desktop look good. They also have been promoting "faster and easier" with every release but now they make it butt ugly and brag that you can have 2 (count them 2) windows open at once as though its sort of amazing engineering feat! WTF? They go from unlimited windows to 2 and call that an improvement lol.(yes I know we can have more than two if you don't use Metro) BTW has anyone found a good app to run in that 1/3 screen when using that amazing split screen function?

No, someone would definitely have posted here if there was any news. As it is, there's a DeviantArt user claiming that he's found a way to re-create Aero glass but he's only revealing the "secret" when he releases his visual style for Windows 8. He hopes to release his visual style before the year's end.

Yes that's true, the removal of Aero Glass was actually a last minute thing! The consumer preview (build 8400) had full aero glass. You know what else has Aero glass stylings? (apart from alpha blended transparency)... Windows Setup! (bootable media). Yes, Microsoft forgot to remove it from the setup, so the Windows setup actually looks better than the final install!

I also feel Metro Apps weren't well conceived from a programming point of view. I'm not a programmer, but know enough about it to at least say it's poorly designed. The Windows Apps seem to take up a lot of space once installed considering what they look like and their function, and they certainly aren't 'light' in the number of files they install either! Anyone with Windows 8 installed and have a couple of extra Apps installed, check out the Windows Apps folder, I think you will be in for a rude shock at the size and the excessive number of files! (it's a 'system' attributed folder, so is normally hidden). Even if they weren't bad in terms of how they are when installed, I think it would be a very bad thing if they replaced normal Windows applications, something which Microsoft are hoping so they can push their 'Windows Store'.

Windows Setup doesn't have Aero and it never had... It's been a static image of a fake transparent window since early Windows Vista.

They didnt touch the Windows Setup since vista.

If microsoft would have wanted to eventuelly replace Desktop applications they would'nt have sandboxed every app and have such a limited api right now.
Microsoft definitly doesnt even have any plans right now to even scratch the Desktop, just the thought about removing the Desktop has a disastrious outcome for Windows.
If anything they would add new API to the Desktop to allow better Windows Store integration, but if you srsly think they are "hoping" for a transtion to Metro apps, no, they know Metro simply can not replace the good old Desktop in many scenarios, removing the Desktop on Windows RT? Sure.. why not.

I know, but my point was it is 'aero glass' styling, and it looks better than the bland crap they left us with inside Windows. It was an oversight on their behalf, but I guess they didn't want to craperise the setup and put people off before installing it!

Styling is matter of taste, and if you ask me the Windows Setup looks terrible, having a little window that isnt actually a window in the Setup makes no sense.

I never said it looked good, only that the styling is reminiscent of older versions of Windows, and definitely not indicative of what people should expect once installed. Sure, styling is a matter of taste, but Windows 8 doesn't really have any styling. It could have been very much significantly better than it is, I just don't think Microsoft cares as long as people are willing to buy it and put up with it.

Aero is over rated. If it happens, it happens. If people are whining they want it so bad, go back to the CP and time bomb it or go back to Windows 7. Think of it this way, Aero is a like brand that went out of business, you can mourn about it or move on with your life.

I kind of agree with anarchist, but MS could have at least spent some time on making the Default theme more attractive. Xp looked better, granted MS wants to keep everything in tune with this ugly "Modern Ui" approach they have taken. It is fine for Windows Phone, I have one and like it on the phone. But for a Desktop, Please!!

Hardware is evolving only thanks to software, please let's face the future with some sanity, why can't we have new things just because a few never want change?
I want change, i welcome Windows 8, but im not using Windows 8 yet as main os. Why am i not using it? Because my Desktop doesnt suddenly turn into one of these new devices and Windows 7 still works fine, it ain't suddenly broken.

It's your opinion that aero is overrated. And you always had the option of disabling it. Now nobody has a choice.
And most people do prefer aero. And a lot of people hate Metro's flat colours.

Point being, change happens everyday, lots of choices are made that everyone doesn't agree on but life moves on. Aero being over rated is not my opinion, its a fact. People in this thread are wanting Aero so badly like a drug addict wanting drugs.
