Very nice. Also, someone at WinAero is trying to return the blur using the technique mentioned here (combined Aero8Tuner and bLend) and some additional coding so it's only a matter of time. I hope they don't decide to charge for the app but WinAero's slogan is "Free, small and useful software for Windows" so I don't think they will sell it when it's complete.
I agree. Once freeware, Always freeware. I hope the result will be similar to what Aero Glass was in the expired Release Preview.
Hello, you can check my topic at MSFN. I have managed to reimplement complete Aero Glass with blur effect into Windows 8 DWM. Just need to fix a few things and I will release it.
This looks promising, considering this little program is programmed in C++. Looks a lot like the real thing. Anyways, I'm a little late in posting this, but =Seahorsepip at deviantART has somehow found to add transparency in his theme. More info: seahorsepip.deviantart.com/gallery/?catpath=/#/d5rzioo
Yeah, this is it! I was not allowed to post a link nor image. My goal is to reimplement full aero glass with all its features without the need of the external application. Currently, it is a DLL library + small loader which only loads DLL into memory of dwm process and exists immediately. There are some small bugs and I have not tested with custom themes.
Very interesting project...will provide a lot of joy, if proceeded further, i guess (here it definitly will). Saw in that thread that even Tihiy showed up. Will follow this interested .
I think a lot of people will appreciate this! Will development be ongoing? It would be great if it were! Any thoughts on moving it to GPL license? It just sounds like something that we would want to keep 'alive', especially since Microsoft are planning to further neuter the standard UI when 'Windows Blue' comes out later this year. They are trying to make the standard UI as plain and boring as possible to encourage people to move to Metro Apps (since they get some of the sales cost when sold through the Windows Store).
I have a plan to implement more features than just a glass with blur effect. I am going to implement glow effect around window caption, better shadows (I guess this is just the theme sprite that contains shadow image), Flip3D and if users requires more features The first preview versions will be released as a pure binary because current code is not optimized at all, it is just more "hey, it works!". But when it comes to usable version, I will release source code too so everyone can help with the future development.
Cool, looking forward to test in VM first. Following the thread at MSFN too, have an account there likewise .
That would be great! Thanks for the time and effort put into this, a great number of people will greatly appreciate it!
I guess we'll have to wait for the bugs mentioned in the MSFN thread to be fixed. Great job bigmuscle Looking forward to the release & source code.
There is no need to wait Either it is fake like the thing with Chinese, Japanese (or whatever) MS guy , then it will be never available or it is real, then author should release test alpha for user feedback
The Chinese/Taiwan guy thing was real kwanmacher is a real MS employee, I can testify. Quick alpha release would be awesome indeed.
