What really annoys me, is that there has, so far, not been ONE satisfactory reason forthcoming as to why they removed it in the first place. Claiming 'performance hits' just doesn't cut it, sorry. Nor does the 'security' excuse for removing desktop gadgets. Bottom-line is, it DIDN'T need to be interfered-with at ALL.
Agreed. I did my research, and concluded that disabling Aero Glass will only remove a few megabytes of memory usage. At this point, ALL modern computers should be able to run Aero Glass without performance issues. "Performance Hits" or outdated look does not cut it. Microsoft just does not like Aero Glass.
That is absolutely correct, but there's even more to the story! - since Windows Vista the code has improved for drawing interface objects, such that it is now faster - the interface is now accelerated, apparently in Vista and even Windows 7? it wasn't (wasn't Direct2D/Direct3D) - computers now are significantly faster The main reason to make the desktop and normal interface uglier and harder to use is to push people to Metro UI. Metro UI on desktop is purely to help encourage sales through the Windows Store (which they make profit on), and also to encourage to uptake of Windows phone and tablet devices. Windows 8 'blue' (essentially Windows 8 SP1 under the guise of a new OS) being released later this year will apparently be even more neutered, apparently with a solid taskbar, even flatter (aka less attractive) interface elements, or so they say.
There is one more problem with memory usage. What you see in Task Manager is not everything, it is only used RAM. But since DWM is Direct3D application it uses mainly video memory and it requires the intermediate buffer/bitmap. As I remember correctly, Vista used one buffer for each window which results in a huge VRAM usage when you have many large windows but Win7 uses only one buffer with the size of half of your resolution (which is about 4 MB in case of 1920x1080x32). My own implementation currently uses two buffers of the size of the resolution which is really not optimal at all but I want to optimize it before release beta version.
No luck at all. I think my vga is too old for that. I would change my graphiccard then maybe get the work this thing.
Currently, when it is only in the phase of the preview, it would be lost of the time to compile 32bit version but it will be released with alpha/beta version
Preview 2 is really nice! (and working for my setup now) but just needs a little bit more transparency for my eyes. Will play with values, thank you so much for this!
hi...whenever i start the DWM loader, kaspersky goes crazy...loader works but cpu utilzation is very high as kaspersky tries to do something!!!
ha... that app does process injection and interception of DLL calls. This is typical behaviour of malware/viruses. So KAV analyzes every step of that app. Thats why you will get all these issues.
File DWMHook02.7z hxxp://leteckaposta.cz/621343263 Place the files in this directory, C:\DWM Execute DWMLoader.exe and see the magic happen. Your screen will go black for a second or two. Now you have working Aero! If you want to disable this once executed, simply exit the cmd window.
It's NOT working, just Explorer crashes and Internet Explorer refuses to work too...maybe another folder to extract the archive, maybe must extracted in system32???
