I think you've misunderstood. The creator, who happens to be a Microsoft employee, is working on his own little project in his free time. He is not looking to have it incorporated into the official Windows build, which is impossible. Instead, he is/was planning to release it for free as an individual, not as a Microsoft employee. Microsoft has nothing to do with what their employees choose to do in their free time, so long as it does not impact the company's image. As a Microsoft (Windows?) team member, he has access to and understands the code better than any external person attempting to try this.
Yes, the guy is commonly known by PCBeta members and admins that he is working in Windows UI Section, now the general believe is he had got some MS pressure to abandon the project because it conflicts with MS decision to remove aero glass, and he might even have been warned not to post again in PCBeta.
Not that I can see. It did have some interesting flickering effects. The files are from the Release Preview build 8400. Any suggestions on getting them to work would be helpful.
I read somewhere that it will not work to copy the RP glass to the RTM so i wouldn't try that if i was you ... and that's exactly the reason i asked where he got this from.
No problem trying this kind of experiments in a virtual machine. Give it a try too, befor abandoning for no reason. regards
Well, if you must know... :/ ...there is the project of patching RTM to enable transparency with three stages: 1. Observe the issues using original RP files in VM (these files) 2. Patching RTM DLLs (in progress, nearly finished, only two files required patching) 3. Tuning, removing bugs So here are the hints for these (stage 1) files: 1. for x32 use files in os32x32, for x64 use both os64x64 and os64x32 2. for replacing files (to avoid access denied) use: a) renaming instead of deleting/overwritting b) "Take ownership" reg file c) Switch to Windows Basic theme (import it from W21012S or use high contrast theme for a moment) and then terminate EXEs (like DWM.EXE) by Tasks Manager 3. Colorization reg is optional 4. All files are patched to allow non-signed themes and unpatched locked originals files are also present with UNCR suffix BTW: I didn't RECOMMENDED it, I only said TRY IT (for those people, who...)
Thanks for the guide. Question: Would the Release Preview msstyle work (I know it works in general, I am sure you know what I mean) with this process and if you have it working at some level can you post a screenshot because I am fighting hell with dwm..
yep, RP and also RTM msstyle with no problems, what do you want to have displayed on screenshot? I have mounted VM hdd-file in Linux to avoid problem or you can use: Taskkill /IM dwm.exe /F
Standard stuff.. winver file dialog showing dwm version just wanna see before i start fighting with windows again. MAKE IT WORTH MY WHILE! Seriously thanks
In further support of my theory that the person who discovers how to provide a stable implementation of Aero may charge money for it, I present Start8 from Stardock which was free during the earlier testing but is now commercial ($4.99). While this does not prove that a stable implementation will be commercial, it does suggest that the high demand for a feature removed from Windows 8 can lead to persons capitalising on that demand.
Your theory is accurate. Back in the good old days of windows mobile 5, there was a program called Wisbar Advanced that allowed you to skin the rather bland OS to ones liking I think it was $10.
