    I fully agree with you. The sequence of actions should be such.
    Slick 2.1 for Asus notebook X54L I did myself. But first pierced the original bios, and then a modified.
    For Asus X54C use already prepared, but not flashed the BIOS pre-filled original.
    To restore the notebook was only after flash the BIOS on the programmer in the service center.
    Most do not want to experiment. Installed corporate version of windows.
    Sorry for my english, I'm from Ukraine.

    (Bootblock was damaged)

    The best sequence is: original bios, then, after reboot - modified bios

    Can't activate:

    manualy too. UAC is disabled. Cert. i use from package. WTF - i don't know.
    Many times i activates win fine, so i know what i can do wrong, now i did all fine.

    pc model ? is the mobo original ecs or is it hp version.
    i have rc410-m alhena gl6 from pc model SR2011wm.

    the trick was to use floppy and the bios file and remove cmos battery and power. to reset. then try recovery sequence
