I am sure the Asus Rampage III board only supports 120k OROMS since the latest BIOS version which is 1502. ASUS must have did something so this BIOS supports those OROMS. They probably could do the same thing for other boards if they wanted to.
Exactly what I meant... Can anyone expert try to understand which are the differences, to finally mod the older bioses?
Asus P5E3 and SSD Error Hello, I own an ASUS P5E3 motherboard and I recently bought an SSD (OCZ Agility 3) to make it system disk (in AHCI mode). Unfortunately I get BSOD at windows 7 installation while completing installation. From abit searching i found out more ppl have the same issue and it's probably from old bios (latest bios from asus site is 1503 dated 2009) which does not have the right intel storage drivers, or something like that. Can anyone help me with a modded version?
Thanks for the help Fernando. I followed the instructions and loaded my BIOS with MMTOOL. I found it to have 2 PCI Option ROMs of interest: VEN_8086, DEV_2822: Intel RST RAID ROM version 8.7.... and VEN_11AB, DEV_6121: Marvell 88SE6121 (61XX AHCI) version 1.1.0.L67 At first i tried to replace the Intel. I used version 9.6.0.1014 so I'm not too far from the default version number (8.7). Got BSOD again. Anyone knows if it's the Intel or the Marvell i need to upgrade? If it is the Intel, I can't update with ver. 10.5+ cause it doesnt fit in bios. If it is the Marvell one, where do i find the new version? Sorry for the many questions, I'm so new to this stuff. Thanks alot again
Have you already flashed the latest firmware for your OCZ Agility3? If not, do it. If yes, I recommend to update the Intel RAID ROM to v10.1.0.1008, which should work with the Intel ICH9R Southbridge of your ASUS board. Since the internal SATA ports of your mainboard have an Intel Controller, you should only update the Intel RAID ROM module. EDIT: Which Intel AHCI driver version are you running?
Yes, my agility 3 came to me with the latest firmware (1.22). I tried Intel Raid ROM 10.5 (the last one with reasonable size, newer are too big to fit) and still got BSOD. I will check it tomorrow again, try more combinations of modules. Thanks again man
Sorry, was mistype cause I post from my mobile phone atm. I ment 2.22. My bios has the 2 modules i posted in a previous post, intel 8.7 raid rom and marvell ahci. Maybe I should leave intel module untouched and replace the marvell module only? I will make more tests tomorrow. Thanks again!
@Fernando 1 Sorry for late reply I have successfully modified & flashed the bios. Thanks for your support.
That is good news, thanks for your feedback. Questions: 1. Which Intel RAID ROM version are you using now? 2. Did you realize any changes regarding the stability and performance of your laptop system?
Welcome 1. I have deleted 8086,2822 & replaced 8086,282a with v11.2. 2. I have already installed v11.2 RST drivers but don't notice any significant change.
That would not solve your BSOD problem, because all 6 internal SATA ports of your mainboard are Intel ICH9R ones. The only on-board SATA port, which is managed by the Marvell(R) 88SE6111 SATA/PATA Controller, is the eSATA one. Tip: Since you are not the only user of an OCZ SSD with severe stability problems, I recommend to contact the OCZ support or visit the OCZ Forum.
