One of my first problems was that I had no internet on the laptop. So a bit of a challenge to download everything you suggest first. I have been reading that the first thing you do after connecting a new machine to the internet is get some sort of antivirus. There is a long list to download from unknown sources. Am I feeling lucky? Has the security risk reduced significantly in recent years? Unless I can get the wifi function running on the laptop it won't be an issue. A laptop tethered to the router by an ethernet cable might as well be dumped and replaced by another tower.
There is no reason to download unknown files from unknown places? None of the existing antiviruses protect you in any way and have never did it.
Could be a modem or PCMCIA card controller, if the thing is older. System Management Bus Controller is usually installed as part of the chipset drivers.
SDI does it for you in a few seconds . It downloads indexes , then checks the drives against the indexes , and then sugests drives to download .
Every driver the OP needed was likely on the ASUS support site, if downloaded and installed properly.
Couldn't agree more. They might be older (compared to the latest available generic one), but they should at least get the ball rolling.
I tried at least a dozen of them but not knowing which one was the right one was impeding my progress.
Yes . Its a pain Thats what the IDs and hashes are for . If you look at the SDI logs it coukd / might tell you the IDs of the missing drivers .
