    Hi there,

I got a Server 2008 SP2 64bit Standard (german) Server here and would like to upgrade to 2012 R2 (english).

As I can see english 2012 R2 DVDs (OEM versions) are quite cheap on ebay, I wonder if I can just use the english DVD + its key to upgrade, without having to fear the only difference...the DVD and the key beeing english.

It wouldnt be a problem if the server would run in "english mode" afterwards.

Would this as easy as using the german DVD or could there be complications, either Network based or software based, mabye the license key itself ? (because of the english language and it beeing a OEM DVD "only") ? (yes, I know, hard to tell anyway, just want to be sure the "installation process and its results" would be just the same as it would be with the german version)

    p.s.
Its a DellPower Edge II, BIOS 2.7.0, running a Xeon 31230

    Regards,

Thank you for the reply !

Yes, that was a very bad typo by me, its "Server 2008 Standard SP2", no R2.
So I would have to upgrade to R2 1st before going for Server 2012.

In that case Id prefer a new installation, before going through unplanned issues with roles&configs.

The max. for this old "Dell PowerEdge II T110" (also because of compatibility issues and regarding "old" software beeing used) would be Server 2012 R2.
Also I havent found blogs or videos of someone attempting to upgrade to Server 2016 on this old machine. (yet) Maybe I shall be the 1st one ;D
