the problem with avira is that it's easy to kill the process, so your machine is no more protected, it's better to chose an AV that can't be killed.

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security and I think it's very effective however it detects the Vista7 Slic Loader posted here as infected by trojan.

I've been using crack@@ versions of nod32 in conjunction with malwarebytes for years. nod32 still has a very small footprint & takes a negligable amount of memory when running ..... try it.

100% WRONG. i have MANY customers running norton 2010 and its one of if not THE lightest out there right now. it uses less than 8mb of ram idle and hardly mush more doing a full scan... i have many people on older systems with only pentium 4's and 256-512 mb of ram running it and it runs great...now kaspersky on the other hand is def far more resource hungry and WILL slow down systems without question..

Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 activated with crack for 3700 days-lol. Rock solid and does not slow down your machine. Highly recommend it!

You obviously can't recommend it that much or you would support its development and buy it.

In the last AV-Comparitives, the free Avast was rated in the "Top" (can't remember actual name) group.

I've tried them all, paid and long trial versions:

Avira Internet Security IS the best if you do not mind paying or get a 3 month trial or longer, or
Avast Free Version 5 if you want excellent free antivirus.
Use this along with Comodo Firewall and your PC will run quickly & smoothly after you have trained the firewall of course.
