Obviously you didnt quite understand what this is about or you wouldnt say that matousec is 'BS'.

FYI: These people are industry-wide recognized specialists. (THE specialists in fact.) Firewall and Proactive solutions developers often even pay them to test their products because they are among the best (if not THE best) in their domain. What they do is testing Firewalls and other Proactive solutions for leaks. And you do know what leak tests are, dont you? These tests are obviously not meant to determine whether a Firewall 'works', these tests are being run to see whether malicious software can BYPASS your Firewall without the attempt being alerted to you, let alone being blocked.

I really recommend that you go to their site and read up on it. Not because i want to patronize you, just because i think you should know that you are using a highly unreliable product and you are even happy with it...

Ok, i'm starting to get convinced. Gonna try this ensemble.
Question : does malwarebytes have any kind of browserintegration ?

In that case i'm obliged to say you're right, and to say thank u for making this clear to me.;)
So this matousec test is THE measurement tool regarding pc security ?
Gonna make it a favourite page then...

Well, their level of testing is impressive to say the least.
DID NOT KNOW that untill now. What a hole in my culture

Definitely gonna use that site from now on. No more mistakes.

I'm always into so many things, that i didn't do the research regarding my protection. Just tried out and decided myself which worked best. As for AV, that can be clear to anyone that way, but regarding FW's, indeed those leaks can't be confirmed by ourselves, so i did indeed overlook that fact.

Gonna see if that avg suite can be installed without the FW, and then see if comodo works good together with avg AV.

    Thanx again

Here's my 2 p, from experience... plus reading up afterwards!

I agree about Avira's false positives and the popup. But I blocked it out mentally and it was fine from then on... ;)

I am now using KIS and I have to say it's the best: I tried NOD32, Norton, AVG, F-Secure, Zone Alarm, Bit Defender and one or two other suites.

I also tried different combinations of AV and Firewall etc. Like Avira and Comodo or Oupost Firewall, Avast and Comodo, Avira and Zone Alarm Firewall, AVG and Zone Alarm etc.

Most are huge and slow everything down badly [Zone Alarm, Norton, F-Secure, Bit Defender, to name the worst from my experience].

Some are just awful, in terms of letting s**te in [AVG in particular]. After unistalling and installing something good and then scanning - uhhhhh....

I am happy with KIS, as most of the time it does the right thing and I had very few false positives, plus I needed to unblock some of my attempts to connect to other devices very few times.

It's not that heavy on the machine, in relation to the protection it gives. NOD 32 is fatser to scan but so what! ;) Scan over night... :)

But if you do not want to mess with 30 day resetting to "trial mode" [which is a full proggy, anyway], then the combination of freeware SW I mentioned above is coolest around.

When I went combining various freeware pieces of security SW - nothing bad happened to me, even though I went places that were dodgy, as it were... :D

    Good luck!

Installed avira and it won't even retrieve any updates.
It won't connect to it's server.

Must be on their end, cause FW is disabled.

This raises questions regarding their reliability for updates...

So any other AV alternatives, exept Kaspersky ?

The best "free for personal use" A-V SW, from all the tests, are Avira and Avast.

Re-install and see, there may have been a scramble somewhere...

Avira normally updates only once or twice a day, btw...

    Good luck!:)

Avira, Nod32 and Kaspersky are the only AV I like.

Avira being free wins the competition.

    Nothing much to think about....

firewall... Comodo and Outpost firewall 2009 both are pretty damn good..

    I prefer Comodo..

I had issue starting COD4 and Cod5 game with outpost other than that ..it 's awesome...

Turns out avira's updates aren't always working.
    Still won't retrieve them...
    Thanx but no thanx...

Did some more research besides matousec.com, and discovered that nod32, used as a pure AV is comparible with avira and avast's results. it's just the full suite that has some bad leaks (firewall and other sections, AV leaks are very low).

So installed that, up and running now, and very pleased to be using nod again, but this time together with comodo firewall and malwarebytes.
Seems like a very good ensemble to me...

    EDIT : thanx again t-Reax

Yeah Avira at times has problems updating itself. I usually had problems on the very first update after installing it. After that I didn't have anymore problems that I recall.

    I second that!

As I said, it only updates itself, from memory, once or twice a day... ;)
