Perhaps something to do with the version of FF itself? Just a wild guess. I have KB3093513 (I checked after I read your post) but FF seems OK. My FF version 40.0.3; not updated that for a little while. I think 42.0 is current.

It could be. I was running 38.3.0 esr and it was fubar. There was a minor upgrade to 38.4.0 esr but things were still fubar. Then I uninstalled FF and then installed the latest and greatest, ver 42 and it was still fubar. Ugly too.

After that Monkey Drill, I restored a backup image from 9/13/15 and started the whole thing from the beginning. After I uninstalled KB3093513, FireFox got back to acting like it should.

I have no explanation as to why KB3093513 hosed up my system, and not others.

I thought I'd be pretty safe sticking with Win-7 but after this episode, it's clear that even the older versions of Windows will be compromised by some rogue update in the future. Makes me want to take a serious look at installing Linux Mint for daily web browsing and only using Windows when a specific application requires it.

It's gotten beyond ridiculous at this point how much you have to babysit your system and the updates and really find out what they're for; the trust with MS is long gone at this point.
I thought I could hold off on installing Mint and dual booting but at this point I keep inching closer to doing so because I'm just getting fed up. I'm wondering how much longer it'll be safe to have Windows "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" as opposed to "Don't check for updates". o_O

It's not just, here is a reply from someone on NBR forums regarding these 3 updates:

Well FF is back to going crazy for me today, and I have none of these updates installed:
    KB3042058
    KB3093513
    KB3088195
    KB3093983

We had a power failure yesterday and that may have screwed things up. Up until that FF was running fine???:throw::suicide:

    Well just an update here.
FF was so bad today that I setup IE11 to navigate the net and even IE11 was quirky but not as bad as FF. So I decided to reinstall KB3093513, which I had just uninstalled a couple of days ago just to see if it made any difference. At that time it made no difference. But after reinstalling it today FF is now running fine again???? Go figure. I can't explain it:confused:

Maybe Windows snuck in one of the older ones. With the info from one of Daz's posts and some more info from this thread, I put together a simple batch file that I run every once in a while to be sure none of them come back. If they aren't installed, you will get a message confirming it. If it is installed, it will ask you if you want to un-install the update. Some of the comments at the end didn't apply to my setup. Save it as a batch file, and run as admin.

    Code:
    wusa /uninstall /kb:2282822 /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /kb:2952664 /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /kb:2976978 /norestart

No nothing got around me and got installed. This was on a clean install and I have all the updates downloaded and install them before my machine goes on line. And I know for a fact that none of the bad updates are in there. KB3093513 was however in there and did not effect FF. But like I said I uninstalled it just to see and FF still ran good untill yesterday. Yesterday I reinstalled it and now FF is back to running good????

What I don't understand is why it FF runs good with or without KB3093513 for a few days, and then one day I wake up and FF is all screwed up??

That's just too weird. My system was all screwed up with KB3093513 installed, and is running fine now that it's un-installed. Yet yours is all screwed up without KB3093513 installed. And when you re-install it things are fine. I don't think we can blame this on FireFox but there's something going on with the Windows Updates that are causing the problems.

I'll post back if anything goes goofy with my system, without KB3093513 installed. This is really annoying.

Getting annoying is an understatement for me. I reinstalled KB3093513 to days ago and FF started running good again. But today it is all screwed up again and IE11 was OK?? So uninstalled it just now and FF is again back to normal. This does not make any sence. :death::mad:

Update again!! Went over to my second partition with Win7 to do some things. Rebooted and came back to my main Win7 partition and low and behold FF was screwed up again??????????????????????????????????????????? So I reinstalled KB3093513 yet again and now FF is back to normal. This time FF was only good for about an hour. This is way past annoying anymore this is down right stupid!!!

I installed that earlier today, and I think FF will be uninstalled in a few days. Pale Moon is everything firefox was a little while ago, and better.

Fairly certain I have that update installed and no issues with anything (leading me to think that update is to blame). I'm a Chrome user, as is my wife & kids, and we have no issues.
