I, like a lot of users, am going to wait before I jump into Windows 8. I like Windows 7 and I don't see the sense in jumping and installing an untested OS. I'll give it a year or so. By then, many of the wrinkles will be ironed out, and I'll know whether or not Microsoft created another Vista.

This business of not releasing a SP2 for Windows 7 really affects people with slow / nonexistant internet connections. Tech people will have to collect all of the pertinent updates and do it themselves. But as anarchist9027 said, performance issues may force a lot of people back to Windows 7, in which case Microsoft will -have- to release a SP2 for Windows 7.

I hope that common sense prevails and they do.

    :Miki.

I tried the RTM out yesterday on my HP Envy 17 because I got a key from my Dreamspark Premium and the s**t hit the fan with my integrated AMD/Intel graphics. The driver from Windows Update jacked my s**t up. It would only let me stay on my power hungry AMD grahpics and when I tried to switch to my on board Intel graphics the screen would just flicker and turn black. Lord knows how they are going to rush something out and not have proper drivers ready for scenarios like that.....

Windows 7 is not widely used as XP was back at time of the Vista launch... neither is 8 resource hunger like Vista was in comparison with XP..., the downgrades will happen because of the interface, Windows 8 is actually faster than 7 in many aspects
Windows update is really a bad place for drivers... Windows 7 driver for one of my old laptops with an ATI card crashed and locked me into a black screen after booting.

AMD's driver was for the consumer preview and the Intel part of the drivers still didn't work. AMD supplied my intel driver when I downloaded it from HP but yet HP doesn't have a driver ready for Windows 8. I tried the Windows 7 driver and the AMD driver worked but not the Intel driver (of course) :wallbash:

I know this, but see back in 2006... XP had freaking 90% of worlds computers..., now to Microsoft, Windows 7 is just a minor burden compared to XP, that will be carefully killed with no more SP!!!

anyway, whatever, i'll stay with windows 7 for a longe time... see you in 2020.

At about 50% of the marketshare, I dont see Windows 7 being killed off anytime my friend (service Packs or not). XP still has an astonishing 36% and the OS is about to be 12 years old!! The only reason its obviously not at 90% no more is because of that fluke Vista and Windows 7. Windows 8 will resemble Vista in this chart in a couple years watch... so M$ better do a 360 and make Windows 9 (or what ever they decide to call it) a masterpiece....

Yes, it has AMD switchable graphics. I can choose between AMD Radeon 6850M graphics and Intel Integrated 3000

    Thanks ;)

Actually I was tired to find the driver support for my friend's crappy HP laptops having these 'hybrid' graphics after Windows 8 upgrade. Google saves me once more.

That Windows 8 update killed my laptop with the AMD driver. I really wanted to try Windows 8 out. I can't even use my AMD graphics, HP really screwed up on my model because its not ventilated enough so my laptop freezes / overheats with the fan running so loud you could hear it from the an other room.

Thanks, I have read it, but i'll go with what anarchist9027 has already said in a previous post, and wait until MS confirms this rumor.

Until then i'll take this news like a grain of salt, and i still believe that Win7 will have a 2nd Service Pack!!

I agree with this... Time will tell, Microsoft is very lucky to be in this monopoly so they can screw everything once in a while...

Going by that logic Windows 7 will only get one service pack
