I am wondering, does that mean that if my XPS 420 has SLIC 2.0, that even if I buy the damn OS it still won't activate???

You will activate it by using Retail key included in your Windows 7 package

So at this point there is nothing an of us DELL M1530 XPS bios A12 owners can do to flash our bios with a modded SLIC 2.1?
Are the only options for us is an Actvat*r, H*ck, P*tch?

    Woohoo! Thanks bbsc.

Just one question, what tool did you use to update the BIOS?

flash from real dos using original *.exe file, bios.gz file using the command D620_A16.exe -readgzfile The gz file must be in the same directory as the exe file and must flash from real dos not just command line...

    1. Take any Dell bios updade tool. I used D630_A15.exe for to control the results. Rename it to something, 15.exe for example.
    2. Make a pure DOS boot USB flash.
    3. Put 15.exe and bios.gz from my archive to this USB flash.
    4. Boot from it.
    5. Type the command: 15 /readgzfile
    6. It'll ask to press any key. Press it.
    7. It'll ask to downgrade bios from 16 to 15, it's normal, press "c".
    8. It'll ask to continue, press "y".
    9. It'll reboot the computer. You must see "A16 bios" message as usual on boot screen.
    10. Run RW to see what slic you have now.
    11. That's all, you're able to activate OEM Win7.

Stay tuned, that bios is very similar to the ones we are working on here, I expect it can be modded using the same methods..
