hmmm, I disabled fast startup and the hibernation file. Did j00? I'll re-enable them and do a test. Wait for teh meh!
Nope, not with a fast system, my system has an SSD, i7 CPU, 32 GB of RAM. This problem never happed on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 only the new 8.1 update Yeah obviously things are slower for the first 15 seconds on startup while services are being loaded. but not to the point where you can't click on anything on the desktop and all your icons turn white like there is a Steve Balmer Ghost on your computer
don't waste your time d00d, you re-install and will experience the problem as soon as you reboot again! it has nothing to do with a re-install let meh re-enable hibernation + fast boot and report back
oh crap! can't reboot now to test this coz I bought a new 3TB Western Digital HDD so I am moving my porn collection on to it. This will take another 2 hours
Services have timed starts when you boot. It only saves the kernel memory during shutdown. The lag between the loaded kernel memory and loading the rest of the services is what causes the system to be unresponsive. This has been the case since vista. People have only started to notice it since win8.x boots a lot faster than vista and 7 did.
For me its booting the same as 8.1. Now when I right click in the Start Screen nothing happens, it only ticks the program, doesn't open the menu. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks
I guess after escaping on previous OS, I have now been caught now. I hope either this problem goes away or MS releases a fix. By the way, is the solution to the problem in `win8.x boots a lot faster than vista and 7'. Can live with a slower boot but not this.
Perhaps it helps to start autostart programs faster: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Serialize "StartupDelayInMSec"=dword:00000000
i've experienced same problem in my hp envy m6 laptop, desktop icons get non responsive for a while, don't know what's causing this..
I never had this problem until update 1 clean install, then I read Window User's post and followed his link. One of the things it talked about was the cloud look up in third party apps, I then remember that I forgot to turn this feature off in Comodo internet security (file rating setting). I have always turned this of during install of Comodo, but forgot this time. Since shutting this feature off last night I have not had this problem and it seems for me the problem is fixed.
my pc didn't work very well after installing hddhealth, that made it freeze and unresponsive. pc working better after I uninstalled it.
For me the problem of desktop freeze at startup is solved by switching to microsoft account and when i switched back to local account then again the desktop freeze is there. I think the problem is related to onedrive.
I'm facing the same problem, anyone know how to fix it? OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit English, latest updates are installed.
I posted a workaround in the discussion with this title: "freezing icons on desktop also explorer after install update 1"
