Its easy. Once you are in VMware. No look back.
1. Install Windows in VMware using untouched iso (entering audit mode)
2. Install every program you want, make every customization usually do after clean install. Update and activate everything.
3. Sysprep with CopyProfile.xml. (Create using Windows System Image Manager)
4. Mount virtual HDD. (VMware Run as administrator and File- Map Virtual Disks...)
5. Capture mounted partition.
6. Create bootable iso image.
I know your needs are bit different from mine. I usually make very big ready to go custom installs for my private use. Engineering company. AutoCAD, ArcGIS so on....
So size is no issue for me. Mostly use my portable 2tb HDD as installation source. WinPE boot-Dism- Apply image, you know
As active member of torrent community, you should be not interested in such big installs. But VMware or any other desktop virtualization software will save for you lot of time.
Something goes wrong just restore snapshot.
