    No, technology is different in Windows 8 and 8.1 VL. They have to be activated either online or against a KMS server.

    I just tried to explain it windows 8 KMS or MAK Keys still require to activate online.

    Totally way different... but short answer , XP VL activates serial based is forever.... win8 VL has to be re activated via KMS every 180 days .........
