i am trying a modded bios on a old tower before i try on my own. the motherboard is a asrock k7s41 with bios 1.70. ive downloaded the latest bios from asrock site v2.60. also with the asrflash utility, but when i run it it dosent follow what the instructions say "make bootable system disc, save both bios and asrflash to it. reboot, at arompt type ASRFLASH hit space once then bios file name K7s41_2.60, press enter, message saying please wait for bios loading rom. after 30seconds see "flashrom update completed-pass" i dont get the please wait or flash complete message. it goes to a different screen saying, Flash EPROM Programming Utility copyright(c)2000 American megatrends inc. all rights reserved. ver.8.27.45 Usage: AMIFLASH ROM_FILE/<command1> <Command> ?IH : help B : enable boot block programming -B : disable boot block programming C : load cmos defaults G : gpnv data area reserving N : to force nvram programming Q : update bios without any message -<options> : disable flags S<file_name> : to save flash rom data into file and quit A:|>_ anyone know where im going wrong and need to do next, thanks.
the motherboard has bios 1.70 on it, ive downloaded the latest one from asrock website v2.60. i ami slic tool 1.54 and modded my own bios. managed to get it install but when it comes to booting it gets to the windows 7 loading screen it freezes and then reboots. ive reflashed with it with the unmodded bios and tried to reinstall win7. it wont boot from dvd drive. the only thing it will boot from is xp or vista disks. anyone any ideas on why or point me in the right direction for a asrock modded slic for a k7s41 either version 1.70, 1.80, 2.00, 2.60. with the matching certs, i would be very grateful. i have managed to learn quite abit from the site with asking for help, but this has me stumped. i want to get this one right before i attempt my newer pc. thanks anyone who helps
1.5gb ram, its an old tower i let the kids use. i am now using it as my test tower before i attempt to do my other tower which is a acer.
Thanks, do you think vista would work, the modded slic tool works the same for vista as 7 i think, so if i get either to work with out knacking things up, ill know i can do it and think about modded my other one.
Some older motherboards won't boot from windows 7 dvd Iv'e seen this before what you can do is use UltraISO and make an image of vista dvd then delete the contents and copy contents from windows 7 dvd and burn it. Or you can make vista iso save the boot file make windows 7 iso and load the boot file from vista and burn dvd both methods do the same thing.
thanks, t has had windows7 on before, somebody i dont know put it on with a loader i think, because it kept coming up as non genuine. then the harddrive died and i put xp back on it. ive getting vista to go on but stuck with win7. dont know how the last person put it on. i'll try to copy the boot files across.
i have even took the harddrive out and used a different tower to install windows7 and it worked on that one. put it back in asrock one and it gets to the windows 7 loading screen then reboots. that was with a modded bios and unmodded.
Another point It could just be that you have burned the windows 7 dvd at to fast a speed if you have for example 16 speed dvd burn it at 8 speed.
i burned it at 4x. i downloaded it from a link from this site. everything i have used is from this site. i dont like to mix stuff from different sites and this one seems to be the best. thanks latinmcg ill give it a try. one question before i do the ones ive downloaded are a different size to yours will that not make a difference. mine are 256kb and yours is 205kb. im questioning your expertise, just i like to ask questions before jumping in and trying anything. i am very grateful for your help.
Thanks latinmcg, installed your bios and used dazloader to install cert and key. it works like a charm. please could you pm me what you did, as when i followed the tut on "how to mod your own bios" mine didnt work. so i can see where i went wrong. once again thanks. as i know it works i am really considering doing my other tower and laptop, but only if i can mod the bios properly.
