    Wouldn't he be able to use the bios recovery tool that's included with
    every asus motherboard to possibly recover from it?

    the bios is soldered so he won't be able to replace it himself, I myself did the udpate with the borked bios for p5n-e sli and it didn't kill my mobo, award recovery fixed it.

    As far as my experience with p5n-e sli is concerned I say don't update it, there is no working bios out there because there is no space in the bin for SLIC.
