I recently upgraded my aspire 3623 from a M370 to a M740. The bios needs to be upgraded to operate speedstep of the new cpu. Currently it runs at 1.3 instead of the 1.7 it's supposed to. At bootup it says 1.733 gh but in EVEREST it says it's running 1.296gh.
CPUz gives the same info. running @ 1.296, identified as 1.733. The bus speed is 99.8 instead of the 133 it should be. I have the proper ram so I need to manually boost the bus speed somehow.I can't find on the ACER site where to get the BIOS upgrade download. I'm using v1.06.
Can you mod this BIOS to operate at the higher buss speed? I don't understand all from EVEREST but it's running at "CO". Apparently it's capable of "C0 & C1". My guress is that the C! mode is the higher speed.

    80 g hdd
    2 gb ram
    intel m 740 cpu
    Pheonix bios v1.06

This IC7-G board is replacing a IC7-MAX3, and there is a modded BIOS for IC7-MAX3 that works, I downloaded it from this forum a while back.

The IC7-G and IC7-MAX3 are very similar in both layout and components. Same chipset, CPU socket etc.. Only IC7-G have serial and parallel port, IC7-MAX3 doesn't.
IC7-G have Sil3112 sata chip onboard, IC7-MAX3 have Sil3114 sata onboard. IC7-MAX3 have a so called OTES fan, IC7-G doesn't.

The BIOS chips on these boards are the same type and model. The BIOS setup looks very much the same but of course there are some differences.

Just for the hell of it I tried to take the BIOS chip from the IC7-MAX3 and place it in the IC7-G, and the BIOS posted and I could enter the setup. But I didn't dare to try and boot up windows.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to take the added SLIC and what else is changed in the working modded BIOS for IC7-MAX3 and port it to the IC7-G BIOS. I have absolutely no idea about the techniques of BIOS modding.

I'm crossing my fingers that someone can crack this nut. I bet that the one that modded the BIOS for IC7-MAX3 can mod the one for IC7-G.

Thank you so much for trying to help p4spooky, it means a lot.

Maybe I'll have to settle for a softmod, but a modded BIOS really is the best solution. Let's see what happens.

    Thanks again p4spooky :)
