no because it will wreck havoc on my activation? Then I will have to locate my copy of Windows 7 and get the key but it will not work since the cert is already imported and OEM activated?

I tried the original from Gigabyte and the FAC one and I get the same message. !!! Bad BIOS Image !!! I think it is motherboard rev issue, different BIOS for other revs

Rev 1.0 and 1.1 use this BIOS.
Rev 1.2 uses FCF Beta BIOS.
Which EXACT Revision MB do you have ???

Obviously then then either there is a problem with the Beta BIOS
or there is something wrong with your Method of Flashing.
Did you set the BIOS to it's Default Settings BEFORE you tried to Flash the Unmodified Beta BIOS ???

It was user error. I was running the flash util and and BIOS bin from a HD that was NTFS formatted -DUH. I put the files in a non-NTFS partition and it flashed with no problems using the original BIOS that you posted.....

I updated my original post verifying that the BIOS worked.

Yes thank you for your concern, it is appreciated
I flashed the original latest BIOS, this flashed fine. I restarted into BIOS it was fine. I shut down and restarted and flashed the modded BIOS this time it began flashing but FROZE just after
    "Veryfying Bootblock ... DONE"
I left it for several minutes and it was still frozen
and then in my mind I weighed up the cost of the motherboard (a) and the words "F*** It" (b) and the latter (b) won out - so after several more minute wait, I Manually shut down the PC and restarted - it restarted fine and into BIOS fine, then shut down and restarted into OS fine - also

Thanks for the feedback. Your RWE report is fine - Slic 2.1 Asus present in bios now.
What options you used for mod flashing ?
    AFUDOSP 709ASLIC.ROM /P /N /REBOOT ???

    only I renamed 709ASLIC.ROM --> HBC0709A.ROM

    so I only used :
    AFUDOSP HBC0709A.ROM [ENTER]

    should I reflash with :
    AFUDOSP HBC0709A.ROM /P /N /REBOOT [ENTER]
    ?

Anyway it all seems fine - the BIOS seems different because the last few newer ones have a graphical interface which enable mouse support - I prefer the BIOS simple with keyboard though :p - but it is still fine :)
