    Hi Serg008,
    That's OK! I know there is a risk. But I would really like to understand why this BIOS is so difficult to mod. Do you have an idea? What methods did you use in your 9 attempts. Maybe it can help to better understand what doesn't work and what's left to try...

    Yes with the new BIOS chip (before I tried any new modded BIOS) everything worked perfectly. Just like a new board! The RW and SLIC reports were generated under Windows which is installed on the hard drive.

    The main problem is the changing of RSDT/XSDT tables name "NEC" to Dell or any other. No one of known methods: Dynamic, SSv2, SSv1, manual SSv2 (and their variations) not work for this bios. SSv3 method's mod (SLIC7, 8) can't be flashed, manual SSv3 mod (latest mod) - bricked the mobo.

    @Serg008

    Try to mod with NEC SLIC 2.1 ;)

    Akcent also tried modifying 1B module with MMTool. But apparently the process did go wrong since I figured out later that the DELL name was not even in his modded BIOS.

    My feeling is that there is a "security" module somewhere (with the NEC name) that needs to be changed at the same as the SLIC module. But which one is this module and where is it located? If we just change the SLIC module and not the security module, then we have a name mismatch and it is not working...

    What do you think?

    That's what I thought... I already dealt with Yen in the past for a hard to mod BIOS in a Sony laptop. For sure he's the man! But I'm not sure he's around right now...

    I just checked the original BIOS with an HEX editor. And I have found the "NEC" string at 2 locations: 0x003d5c9b and 0x003f8f4c. So the NEC string is definitely in the original BIOS.:biggrin:

    USB recovery does not work... It's not my first try at recovering this AMI BIOS ;)
