Please make sure to identify your board correctly. Flashing the bios on a wrong board can have disastrous effects.
@ nojuan: really appreciate that link, i'll be looking into it some more. But they have so many VAIO models, is there any way to be sure what it is? I've not seen that Aptio anywhere in my laptop's modification. Is there any software that can help identify it? Even booting up, I dont even get the usual black screen where you can press F12 to the settings.
An AMI Bios comes as a .ROM file. That Bios has multiple files .data, .certificate, etc. which leads me to believe it is an AMI Aptio Bios (which are common on Vaios).
@ nojuan: I see. Well it would appear that CTBIOS and the AMI Identification Utility are precisely what I need to be sure, yet neither will run on Win7, even with the compatibility properties set to Vista and Run as Administrator. What do you recommend as the next step?
