OK guys, I know this section is for Bios Mod Requests Only but please hear me out first because I need some solid advice from people that know what they are doing before I proceed.

This rig was actually made by my elder brother using parts purchased online.

He was the brains when it came to computers but he passed away not long after so now he's gone, I've inherited this and I'm going to try and keep it and just upgrade the bits and pieces for as long as I possibly can.

The current OS is a OEM home premium (genuine actual DVD) and with me now.

I'm torn between upgrading it to Professional x86 or even x64 or do you guys think I should just be happy with this genuine copy and not try and be smart and f**k around. The last thing I want to do is brick the motherboard.

A brief hardware summary is below:

    CPU TypeQuadCore Intel Core i7 860, 2933 MHz (22 x 133)
Motherboard ChipsetIntel Ibex Peak P55, Intel Lynnfield

    Memory
    2 x Corsair CMD4GX3M2A1600C82 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (9-9-9-24 @ 666 MHz) (8-8-8-22 @ 592 MHz) (6-6-6-16 @ 444 MHz)

    System Memory
    3063 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)

Video AdapterNVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 (896 MB)

Disk Drive:OCZ-VERTEX ATA Device (119 GB, IDE)
Disk Drive:WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1 ATA Device (931 GB, IDE)
Disk Drive: External USB Device - Maxtor Basics Desktop (465 GB, USB)

Again, apologies for posting irrelevant stuff here. It's not my intention to derail the purpose of the thread but I don't even know if I should be doing a bios mod in the first place with what I've got.

*Primary use is to surf, heavy downloading, some video capture/editing (Camtasia) and MW2. Will eventually try to network it to my PS3 and make it into some sort of media hub.

Thank you all to your amazing contribution to the forum. I hope you are able to advise me on what is best and how to achieve it.

    Regards,

EZFLASH is the easiest one to flash this bios but make sure this the right bios for your motherboard.. You might try afudos with this command in Dos:

How to run the utility under DOS
    -------------------------------------------
    1. Run the file afudos.exe

    Afudos /ixxxx.rom

    xxxx.rom is your modified bios.
    (Program main BIOS image)

EZFLASH does not recognize it as a proper bios file. AFUDOS returns the following error message :

    ASF signature not found

Error: BIOS has no flash information available
