Myself I don't use real-time scanning, but I do run malwarebytes free pretty much every day. It seems to work well, and it already caught a piece of nasty ransom-ware.
Kaspersky is pretty cheap here in India.. Around USD 7 for one year subscription hence I use that.. Works good for their antivirus, but the internet security does slow down the system a lot..
Block avastui.exe in your Firewall, TCP outgoing. No ads anymore, updates and definitions still fully functional...
Defender is best...been around for a long, long time and has handled all of my machines since before Microsoft bought the company, prior to it becoming Microsoft Security Essentials. It has the lightest resource footprint and is by far the least invasive of them all. Instantly caught and eradicated every nasty that's come my way and is so good and precise at what it does that I cannot recall the last time it gave me a false positive--that alone is worth its weight in gold. Don't discount it just because you don't have to pay for it--because if Microsoft can't police Windows, nobody else can, either.
i Have been using MSE since xp and tell customers that's all they need, now defender since w8 that's all i say now, i am using defender now with premium malwarebyte's (both running B/R) on jobs done here, i do a lot of cleanups and i find comps are full of crap with norton, etc etc etc on. i for sure would not pay for an antivirus..
It depends on what creepy pr0n you want to look at. I've used MS antivirus since it was first released from Windows Live Onecare, to Security Essentials to Windows Defender, this with the added bonus of Malwarebyte's alongside MS EMET. I've never had a single malware infection apart from educational purposes when studying malicious code.
Your kidding me...Right?? Windows Defender is absolutely garbage...Do a google search and participate in a few forums you will find this out. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!
eset or kaspersky for a regular user? I don't use any I work removing viruses If I see anything weird I just use scanners like jrt adwcleaner mbam or hitman pro
Don´t waste too much time eliminating malware, block the streets they are riding on straight home to your machines: Java Script, Java, Flash, Scripting in Adobe Reader and other applications... So it´s NoScript, Adblocker, Ghostery, restricting (or deleting) Flash and Java in browsers and restricting the use of scripting in pdfs. An of course: NO dumb clicking on unknown EXEs and mail attachments. This way you never even will see any malware for the rest of your life. If you´re a brave one you even can uninstall all AVs then.
