my 2 cents-I use UltraISO for creating and or editing and I use DT mainly for mounting and viewing NTSC and PAL dvds
+1 from me, will also mount protected images (created with ie Alcohol 120%) And it supports command line options (a must for me) sebus
I also use UltraISO. never heard of WinCDEmu, though I'm a freeware fan. Can you edit ISO images with it? I'll have to give it a try, maybe I'll even write a review for it on my blog. Thanks
I like MagicDisc best, but have used virtual clonedrive and that is good too. I like the simple, tray format they both use. Daemon tools and alcohol 52% are both ok, but the interfaces are a little bigger. Best of all, all 4 of these choices are free! (For alcohol 52% download the adware version, and then choose not to install the adware when you install it. Easy) In the end though, they all work fine and do same trick pretty damn well!
+1: I use Virtual Clone Drive to mount/unmount images. Associating image extensions with VCD and ticking the appropriate options, the only thing you have to do is to double-click the ISO (to mount), and use "Eject" (in the right-click standard menu) to unmount it. When I need to edit an image, I use the right-click menu and open the image with UltraISO. The whole scheme works like a charm in W7 x64. Or at least worked like a charm until the installation of EMET 2.0 from Microsoft: with maximum protection settings, UltraISO triggers BEX (DEP) and does not work anymore. But this is another history... EDIT Before someone says "hey, just add UltraISO to DEP exceptions", here is the picture and the answer: after EMET, it's not that easy... h**p://img441.imageshack.us/img441/2651/emetdep.png
VCD by Far The cmd-line is great. Eject keeps iso locked. So just create a shortcut for uMount... "C:\Program Files (x86)\Elaborate Bytes\VirtualCloneDrive\VCDMount.exe" /u It also adds a close tray to physical drives. Undocumented hint... Replace the ico file in program folder to one of your choosing and have a cool icon for vdrive VirtualCloneDrive.ico Keep in mind if you've already loaded it you might have to Rebuild Icon Cache. If I remember correctly magicdisc has a more flexible license for enterprise use and has cmdline options and does not totally suck, but for personal use nothing beats VCD.
If all one wants to do is mount an image then Daemon Tools Lite works great and is free for personal use. If one wants to edit an image as well as mount it then I've always used UltraISO with excellent results. Take Care
