So Windows 10 have memory standby bug and Fullscreen Optimization. And Windows 8.1 doesn't have that. What OS is best for gaming?
It also features numerous bugs, lots of pre-installed stuff, removes your documents without asking, badly made dark mode (except on LTSC but still) Meanwhile 8.1 is faster, eats less ram, doesn't have any preinstalled stuff (if you take embedded pro/enterprise) 0 bugs whatsoever. It's mosly user-preference, but I prefer 8.1 because you can easily block updates and have better control over 10. Both are a good choice for gaming i'd say.
Ive got 8.1 Embedded Enterprise installed on Coffee Lake so im automatically blocked from receiving updates(unless i use the zeffy patch) and no soppy apps.
Skylake for me, just at the limit But I disable them right after i get net 4.7.2, some audio drivers and android fastboot driver
I was expecting to use 10 but i had 8.1 sitting around and a flawless install. Cant use the igpu though but thats not a problem a gt710 cant solve
If you take in mind that a Win8.1 32bit modified iso can boot with 230mb of ram in a VM (64bit 300mb)....you understand how modular and light can be. In Windows10 is impossibile go down 400mb ram or there is something too big or for now tools arent able too, still if you have a recent pc you can run a lite win10 iso without complain, with 4years pc i can understand the choice of a win8.1 lite iso for take the maximum from hardware. On the DirecTX or functions Win8.1 and Win10 should perform the same and also if win10 has some improvement, the lighter Win8.1 will still perform on pair with it.
For the games that are not so heavy lately, Windows 10 is more convenient for me. PD, games in free time.
hmm although I vote in W10, I never had issues whith W8.1 at least for me most important thing still is hardware no doubt since times W3.1...
Windows 10 is a bit slower in my experience, on a slower PC. Maybe it's all that TM that is processing inside the CPU! And apps as well.
Windows 10, although there wasn't much competition for anything modern. *After you take the time to remove all the bloatware, services, cortana, auto-everything....
it all depends on the game I loved the old times when you could slim down the OS like winxp, server2003 win 7 that way when playing a game less things are running in the back ground . now days the newer windows os have min 40 things running in the back ground when idling . and when you turn off some of those things it breaks the os lol I have gamed on all windows from win .1 to win 10 and well again depending on the game I have been playing ark survivor evolved on both win 8.1 and win 10 and it plays the same with slightly different hardware.
Well might be of interest to someone...I'm on fast insider and was surprised that steam's version of tomb raider 1 (the first) works perfectly....played it many years ago on a playstation and was on special offer for 69p and thought it could bring memories back playing it again.
In my experience windows games always run faster and less frame drop when those games are played on Linux. You just need an app called Play on Linux. You can use Play on Linux to install other windows based .exe programs to your linux computer. Linux, especially MX Linux, has hundreds of games available to download for free. So who needs windows for anything other than paying through the nose for any and everything you want or need…not much free stuff available for windows that you can trust. Linux , on the other hand, has everything you could want or need available for free. Like Gnu Image Manipulator. Like the $1500 Photoshop but more advanced and free to install. Plus Gnu Image Manipulator (Gimp for short) can do animation and so much more.
