    How create mini dos diskette?
Only copy kernel.sys and command com to diskette?

    Do bootblock have audio signals?

I used Award Tool 1.18 to add HP-MPC Slic 2.1 to Gigabyte P35-DS3R (mb is rev 2.0) bios F13 using SSV3 Method.
Flash was successful with Q-flash but after restart I got black screen a two silent beep.
Are this beep are connected with boot block ?

1 Long Beep, 2 Short Beeps
One long beep followed by two short beeps indicates that there has been some kind of error with the video card.

hi to all here's my problem:

ACER 5520G (ICW50 Motherboard). This my friend's laptop. One day it has powered off (like he said).

i've tried to power on this laptop with/out the battery and it power off immediately. (the screen it's black). if i power on with fn+esc it goes to recovery mode. the problem is that i've tried to flash the bios from cd/usb/usb floppy but it doesn't read anything and i don't understand why!i've also opened the laptop but i haven't seen any sign of burned components. i'be tried to desolder and resolder the battery but nothing! could you help me?

p.s i'm italiano: sorry for my very bad english!

    MSI KT4 Ultra.
    AMI BIOS

Successfuly unbricked after playing with SSV1 MOD (SSV1 mod = BRICK, SSV2 (with SLP for WinXP) Works OK on this motherboard.

    1.
Updated bios with original lates bios first - boot block programinig as default in amiflash - on.

    2.
Tried to flash modified bios with SSV1 MOD (experimentaly).
I DISABLED boot block programing - so it stayed intact :)
    Flashed, verified - all OK.
    Restarted - Black screen. :(

    3.
    Put:
    AMIBOOT.ROM
    on floppy.
Restart - NEEDED to press HOME + CTRL to start reading from floppy.

HOWEVER! - floppy check for files and starts "spinning" disc constantly but NOTHING else happens... WTF?

Repated a few times - no change.

Then I put file once again on floppy BUT it's name is:
    amiboot.rom
    !NOT!
    AMIBOOT.ROM

And boot block locate it successfuly after first try.

SO if your floppy spins but it looks like it can't find/read file - CHANGE name to small letters!

Use (for example) Total Commander - SHIFT+F6 is for changing names.

    Hej

Sorry, but my english isn't very well. Hope you understand what I mean.

Please learn from my failure. I flashed my phoenix bios with a modified bios and my system chrashed. My laptop was totally dead - black screen and nothing happend.

I tried the pen drive recovery, but couldn't start wincris. Instead I tried crisdisk with my usb pen. But of course it didn't work.

I gav it a last try with the pen drive recovery..copied all files from the pen drive recovery to the usb pen plus my bios.wph. Changed the compability of wincris to win xp and unbelievebly wincris startet. Followed the instructions, unplugged the pen and replugged it. Continued and pressed start. It couldn't find the files, I pressed ok and the window closed.

The next step was to copy these files from my original bios to my usb pen:
    - minidos.sys
    - bios.wph
    - plash16

USB pen plugged to the laptop, pressed win+b, plugged on adapter and started pc. The first about 10 seconds nothing happend beside the usb pen lightend. Suddenly I hear a lot of beep noises and the light on the usb pen stops working. The beep noises continues for about 3-5 minutes and suddently the last long noise and my pc shuts down and restarts. Everything works fine - to be shure I flashed the original bios with iso cd and my laptop works like before.

Hopefully there is someone, who can use my experiance. I indeed needed these information to be sure that I was doing the things right.

I was trying to flash a modified bios, during flashing the screen went black for over 2 /3 minutes, I thought it had powered down. I pressed the power button and interrupted the flashing. This has corrupted my bios. If I turn on my PC now, the lights come on and after a second it all goes off again.

I can't get the bios to reflash any one???

I don't have anything, I read I could create a recover disk from the dells firmware update file. I can extract the HDR or the ROM file. But I can't get any further than this. I can't get the laptop to read from the usb flash stick. Am i following the correct precedure for modern dell laptops?

I read somewhere you might have to put the firmware image file at the root of the HDD.

    Any ideas? Can you help?

I know that phoenix do make the DELL bios.

I contacted someone at dell via email, (in the development team) they informed me that they are unaware of this procedure which is probably why it does not work.

He says that when they get a bad flash on the boards they send it to their board team and they then reflash the bios via external hardware (possibly JTAG but I have inferred this)

I am awaiting another email hopefully I will be able to get correspondence with some one on the "board team" I will try to find out what the programming pins are and how the bios can be restored.

    Dan

I really think this PHOENIX bios recovery is not for DELL iv tried every combination i´ve only read that this has worked on dell mini 9 and 10 (where the combo is fn + B for mini 9 and fn + END on mini 10)

    Hey guys,

    i bricked my Thinkpad SL500 ...

When booting, Screen remains black, but CDs in the tray and fans are spinning (seems like a successful POST - no beeps!).

I tried to recover the bios with the methods in Post #1 (USB pen + USB floppy drive) - but the floppy isn't accessed even once!

I tried various USB ports and various Key combinations - doesn't help.

I even emulated a boot floppy on a cdrw (because the drive seems to get accessed when booting) - nothing.

Is there anything I can do?
