Thank you for your reply. Ok, I will attempt to do this from a thumbdrive. I only attempted to use a USB Floppy because of the pinned directions on the first page regarding using the HP USB Disk Storage Tool to create bootable floppy: How To: 1. Use HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool with MiniDOS files to make your Bootable: Flopy, USB Flopy, USB Flash Drive (Flash Drive works in rear cases). When creating the boot Floppy, select from Folder Options to view the hiden and system files and delete or rename the file config.sys if present. Couse we need DOS with no additional programs that are loaded, which could interfere with the operation of the BIOS flash application. 2. Copy all the files from Rescue to your: Flopy, USB Stick, USB Flopy. etc.. etc...
Hello, new member here. I flashed my HP Pavilion dv5-1138tx's Insyde bios which had factory firmware F0c, to the latest F21A using the 3603.fd file, matching the motherboard, which was downloaded from HP's website. Unfortunately I found out too late that it uses the 3602.fd flash, which doesn't make any f**** sense. F*** HP! The bios will not boot at all, i discovered from another unfortunate person that the F21A 3603 update erases the bootblock, so the winKey + 'B' recovery doesn't work. I get no beeps and computer does not attempt to read from anything. Is there any way at all i can fix the bios now? And if not, can someone please tell me of anyone in Melbourne, Australia that can reflash the chip with an EEPROM programmer? Thanks in advance guys.
Gateway NV5214U Laptop Brick Recovery Folks, A Buddy bought a new Gateway NV5214U Laptop and as I has just Modded one (with the help of 911Medic who modded the Bios for it) he asked me to do his. His wife dropped off his new, unopened Laptop. I had kept the USB Stick I made with the modded bios (from the first time) so after installing Win 7 64 Ultimate it was time to install the modded Bios. Booting to the USB stick and starting phlash16 was routine, and it automatically checked the present bios and installed the new one. After a few minutes (and lots of routine but annoying beeping) it said it was 100% complete and to reboot by pressing any key. But before I could press anything => it all went black. It was a Brick Then I went scouring the Web for days to find Gateway specific info with no real results. I looked at the Gateway Support Site but no joy was found there at all. Then I took a couple days off to work on another project before attempting one last ditch effort before calling my Buddy and telling him I had Bricked his new, unopened Laptop. I went to the Gateway Download Site and pulled down the Bios by Serial Number When I unzipped it I looked around the folders, and inside the DOS folder, was a zipped file call CRISDISK. I thought this could be interesting, maybe there was instructions and the program. There was the program and Bios file but sadly no instructions. But as I was in this deep I decided to take the plunge based on the various info from all the posts I read. Anyway, I got it to reflash and it Booted up to Win7 . The process is really quite simple once you figure it out. 1- Unzip the Bios to Hard Drive (Root Directory - WINCRIS.EXE only seems to work from there in Win7 64 anyway). 2- Look inside DOS Folder and unzip CRISDISK 3- Insert USB Stick into PC (All Data will be lost) 4- Run WINCRIS.EXE (Just double click- select Removable Media from Drop down Box) 5- After it finishes remove USB Stick from PC 6- Insert USB Stick into unpowered laptop (after removing battery & line cord) 7- (Here's the Tricky Bit) While pressing the Fn & Esc keys, Plug the line cord in and then (while still pressing) push the power Button. 8- You will hear one Loud Beep and then release the Fn & Esc keys. 9- You will then hear an annoying (but pleasing as you know something is happening) series of Beeps in various patterns for about 6 minutes. 10- When complete the Laptop reboots itself and bingo - you at at the Desktop! I hope this helps someone else with their Gateway Laptop sometime.

Hello, I am trying to fix a laptop for a friend, it is a Sony Vaio Laptop, model No NS11J/S. She was updating the BIOS from Sony's website, half way through the Power Lead accidently came out, she even forgot to have the battery in the laptop. Now it is sort of dead. When you turn it on, nothing comes on the screen, it is blank, no flickering, nothing. BUT, when you turn it on, the power lights come on, the hard drive spins up, even the CD-ROM is detected. I am quite confidant that it has a AMI Aptio Bios. I have searched on-line and a few websites suggest downloading the latest version of the BIOS, renaming it to AMIBOOT.ROM, putting it on a flappy disk, then turning the power on while holding the CTRL + HOME keys and letting them after you have turned it on. Problem here is that I have no floppy drive, so I found a recovery sequence with CD-ROM, similar to the floppy drive recovery, but you put it on the CD-ROM, even tried it with a USB Flash disk. I know there is something I am doing wrong, because some people have managed to recover their BIOS. I went to PCWORLD, they say it can be recovered, but will charge in excess of £200. So,I am here to ask if anybody has any experience with this type of problem. Please help Thanks Sub.
