thanks for the reply mate, but my problem is that my laptop is not beeping POST.

the power button is blinking and when i press it, the power still blinking + wifi led on + cpu and gpu fan on + dvd-rom hissing, until i press the button long and it shut down in that "blinking" fashion. i simply cant do the Fn + Esc process..

when i can do the Fn + Esc process i should have been successful now because ive got the combination af crisis recovery files..
    pls reply again

Did you follow the process I posted which made a Bootable USB Flash Drive with WinCrisis and the original bios? (see below) If not please advise exactly what process you followed.

The process is really quite simple once you figure it out.

1- Unzip the Bios to Hard Drive (Root Directory - WINCRIS.EXE only seems to work from there in Win7 64 anyway).
2- Look inside DOS Folder and unzip CRISDISK
3- Insert USB Stick into PC (All Data will be lost)
4- Run WINCRIS.EXE (Just double click- select Removable Media from Drop down Box)
5- After it finishes remove USB Stick from PC
6- Insert USB Stick into unpowered laptop (after removing battery & line cord)
7- (Here's the Tricky Bit) While pressing the Fn & Esc keys, Plug the line cord in and then (while still pressing) push the power Button.
8- You will hear one Loud Beep and then release the Fn & Esc keys.
9- You will then hear an annoying (but pleasing as you know something is happening) series of Beeps in various patterns for about 6 minutes.
10- When complete the Laptop reboots itself and bingo - you at at the Desktop!

Hey there jim.. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it..

But my problem isn't just a bad flash. It was beeping 3 times with blank screen. I haven't found the cure at that time.
But now I've found the way to recover it but the problem now is more complex. It won't read from the usb to perform crcd. What I got is blinking power button with cpu and gpu speed up. It won't read from usb flash drive. I've prepared it like u said even holding the fn + esc. Its still blinking and won't read the usb flash drive to crcd, just

I assume you've read and tried Albester's recovery method anyway just to ensure a good Bois is present? If so I'd move onto checking RAM seating, or the RAM itself.

I looked up the Beep Code for 3 long Beeps and it's "3270 keyboard card" or "Any combination of beeps after 2 indicates a failure in the first 64K of memory" or a "Faulty motherboard or one of its components."

    Phoenix BIOS Beep Codes

This BIOS emits three sets of beeps. For example, 1 -pause- 3 -pause 3 -pause. This is a 1-3-3 combo and each set of beeps is separated by a brief pause. Listen to this sequence of sounds, count them, and reboot and count again if you have to.

You can easily remove the RAM. I understand it comes with 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (2GB x 2). So remove both and then re-insert one and reboot. Then try the other and advise.

    Good Luck! ;)

Ok I remembered the beeps. 1 long, pause then 2 shorts. I know its about display adapter because what I did screw in my laptop is the nvidia gpu bios. I accidentally changed the device ID.
But now its not beeping anymore. Just power button blinking, no attempt to read fron usb. I haven't tried the ram reseating process, but are u sure that's the problem with this blinking situation?

Thank u soo much, u are very helpful and responsive. I really appreciate it man

I wish I was more helpful (sorry) but now you are well beyond my capabilities. (A man's gotta know his limitations...)

Perhaps a Guru will chime in with the answer. ;)

Hey guys, having a problem with my BIOS. Woke up this morning to find the BIOS boot block on my screen asking for a system disk.

I've formatted a floppy via several methods (Native Windows MS-Dos disk, several of the bootdisk.org utilities, boot2disk utility, etc) and no matter what it will always come up with non-system disk. Is there anything I can do at this point?

First of all, thank you for all the information put together here.

I have a Lenovo G Series (G550) laptop with a Phoenix bios which I updated with the WinPhlash installer from Lenovos web site. That didn't go too well as a boot only shows a black screen with the fan running on a low frecuency, some initial response from cd-rom and the led lights (power, wireless and audio) on (hard drive led - or maybe it signals that the prosessor is working - blinks once).

I found Phoenix Wincrisis v.1.0.0.4 somewhere on the net which I understood is needed for USB disk recovery as the older versions only support floppy. Why isn't this program on Phoenix own web site by the way?

I tried to make a recovery disk with both Lenovos newest bios update and with my bios backup. I have used PHLASH16 v.1.6.9.5 both times. This person (web.telia.com/~u43311424/crisis-recovery-disk/) reports that an older version of Phlash16 may be needed for it to work and I guess I'll just have to try them all even though I don't understand why an older version would be any better.

My steps have been as follows:

    1. I removed the laptop battery and power cord.
    2. I pushed the power button for about 30 seconds. I read somewhere that this was necessary as it's equalent to clearing CMOS. I saw that both power and battery leds are blinking once when I put the power cord back in after supposedly clearing CMOS - so maybe.
    3. I put the usb disk in a usb slot and kept pressing Fn+B before I put the power cord back in.
    4. When I pushed the power on button the Phoenix recovery mode was initiated. I am quite sure of this because the fan is now running on max speed and only power and wireless leds are on.

The problem is that now nothing happens. The usb disk blinked once when I turned the laptop on but the computer doesn't give of any biping sounds and the usb disk does not go on blinking which is what other peope are reporting. Every time I've tried the bios rescue I have let the laptop running for 10 minutes or so just to be sure - even much longer without any response.

What else can I try? I have tried to use all three usb slots. The only thing left I can think of is to go through all of the PHLASH16 versions and try every one of them.

    Edit:

As I said there is three usb slots on Lenovo G550. Two on one side and one on the other. If I use the one which is alone and put the usb disk in after the laptop boots in rescue mode (or take it out and in again) - the usb led is constantly on. I don't know if it can give any clue to why it isn't working as nothing more happens. It acnowlages the disk but doesn't read from it?

    Edit 2:

Phoenix Wincrisis v.1.0.0.4 can be downloaded here: mediafire.com/download.php?ztmilmmeymr

I see that my usb disk only contains 8 kb after Wincrisis have supposedly copied the files to the drive. I will try to run the program from DOS.

I guess you have to. The up to date bios.wph or equalent that I have seen is always 2 mb. I tried to use the compress option in Wincris but it is still too big to fit on a floppy with minidos etc.

I do not know. I haven't done a successful recovery myself even though my laptop clearly enters recovery mode phlash16 doesn't do its job.

bem: I have not found any tutorial for bios recovery for Lenovo computers at all. I have posted on forums.lenovo.com so hopefully a technician will answer. You can enter recovery mode by pressing and holding Fn+F before you plug in the power cord and power up.

The problem may be that Phoenix recovery mode is so simple a mechanism that it will only boot on a floppy - this is just a guess. I found this web site (nu2.nu/bootcd/#clean) with the tools to make a cd which emulates a 2.88 mb floppy.

I added bios.wph, phlash16.exe and minidos.sys in cds\clean\bootdisk\ though minidos.sys was probably unnecessary. The files combined are anyway less than 2,5 mb. I also added the line "phlash16 /x bios.WPH" to autorun.bat (which is runned by autoexec.bat).

The boot cd did not seem to work for me but maybe it will for somebody else.

My problem at the moment is, my W500 is working fine but I would like to flash the bios of the W700 to get the qx9300 working and this doesnt work with the w700 bios update c because the machine type is wrong (im getting the error massage the dictionary couldnt be found) for this reason I would like to flash the bios out of the failsafe mode but Im not able to enter it. I dont know if entering the failsafe mode on a working machine is even possible...

A guy with a t400 enterd it with fn + b but on a damaged thinkpad...
