    Hello,

Maybe someone will be able to help me, I'm stuck after two days of searches on the internet and trying every possible thing.

The problem is with laptop Acer 5520 (model ICW50). I have had some horizontal lines on the bios and start-up screen, and none occured in Windows XP, plus video drivers wouldn't install (lead to black screen each time), so I decided to update BIOS just in case to the newest one on the official Acer website (1.33, Phoenix BIOS). After flashing laptop died, just like in many similar cases I found on the internet. Meaning the laptop doesn't turn on, all I can get it to start is the FN+Esc mode, but nothing comes to the screen anyway. I have tried making Flash Drives (5 of them), I have tried burning bios on the CD, got myself a USB Floppy drive. Nothing works. And the reason I believe is that the USB drives are not accessed by the computer in the FN+Esc (flash drives just give me a short blink and the beginning and none later, and USB Floppy doesn't even once blink or make a noise, just as if it wasn't there). I've tried all USB ports. All those work on the desktop computer (flash drives and USB floppy drive).

Is there anything else I can do? No specialists around the area, where I live right now. What I was thinking is maybe it would be possible to flash teh BIOS from a CD somehow? Because it's the only thing it seems to be reading in that mode, but don't know how to make one that would work. Thank you in advance!

    @Eller,

Which model do you have? Aspire 5520 or TravelMate 5520? Aspire 5520 service manual did mentioned that you need to use floppy disk for CRISIS BIOS recovery. The procedure should be the same:-

Thank you very much for answering. It is an Aspire 5520, sorry for not mentionning before, slipped out.

I have tried the Crisis diskette thing, I have found it on the internet. I have tried the Crisis with both flash drives and floppy, but as I mentioned before, it seems like it just doesn't read any USB devices properly. USB Floppy drive doesn't move or blink even for a second, it doesn't make an attemp to read from the floppy disk at any point, and that happens on all 4 USB ports. :(

    lenovo recovery

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUTE RECOVERY LENOVO LAPTOPS: Do not take off your battery!! It seems that before flashing, it verify AC/DC connection and battery level. If one of them is not ok, then reflash is stopped.

I did it and figure out my problem about recovery my lenovo s10-3t bios so Adminisitrator should edit the first post and add this metod for recovering Lenovo laptops.

many thanx to eucora for this useful notice.:worthy:

PLEASE HELP! I have an ACER ASPIRE 4720Z notebook. I tried flashing the BIOS with the provided (by the manufacturer) WINPHLASH tool and as I was expecting, it didn't work. After that I tried flashing the BIOS with PH161700.exe from DOS. The update procedure was "normal" so I thought everything was ok. But after the update I can't access the OS. I mean the computer boots, it lets me go into the BIOS settings and even "tries" to load the OS. But after dark a BSOD pops up and its back to sstep 1. I can access my USB DOS drive and if provided, I could try reflashing it with a different tool perhaps? Or a different BIOS? Anyway, I need help. I'm not if I did anything wrong (to be honest, this would be the first time and I've flashed a LOT of Bios'es)... Maybe phlash16 is not intended to flash ACER bios'es from DOS? I dunno..
    Thanks in advance.

I have a BIOS I modded to remove the whitelist for my Lenovo Edge13. I want to try my BIOS but I am afraid that if I brick the board I can't recover. How can I test if my crisis bootable Flash disk works, I made it following the Ideapad U350 instructions. I tried twice, once with fn+R & once with fn+B while powering on, and it wouldn't read from the flash drive. I own a USB floppy but, I can't try from a floppy because the BIOS ROM file is itself larger than a floppy capacity. Is this because you need a Laptop to be in a bricked state for it to look for an outside BIOS to recover from, or am I doing something wrong.

    Any suggestions?

    Make bios flashing risk 0%

All bioses have 6 recovery procedure methods that is known to all bioses manufacturers, only need to have dosflash utility for integrated bios brand name.

    Aspire 5530 Bios Recovery

Hey, Riley here. So, I have an acer aspire 5530, been trying to update my bios (Phoenix one) and it has failed :( I used Windows 7. I tried a lotta ways to fix it with no positive result. I am not able to use a CD/DVD drive to do it (it's been acting up a lot and it's broken) nor any floppy (not built in). I'm still trying to fix it (using pendrive). Please, I need help :/

I read your post. i already tried most of it. I can't recover from floppy, because my firmware is 1.2mb, and this leaves no space for minidos files or autoexec.bat file. I am forced to use thumb drive but so far this is not working. This is a very new model and has no legacy conenctions like serial or parallel, its usb only, and an sd card slot reader, thats all. I will try cd-rom today as a last resort. This is for a laptop, with no built in cd-rom, so the cd-rom drive i will be trying is usb attached. I saw you put recovery can be done via ethernet, is this every laptop model or specific ones? Do you have documentation to implement this procedure?

The hotkey for Aspire 5530/5530G is Fn+Esc. CRISIS disk must be floppy disk for Aspire 5530/5530G (using USB floppy drive). Make sure the AC adapter & battery are connected to notebook. Disconnect all external devices.
    1. Attach a USB floppy drive to working system.
    2. Copy BIOS file (*.WPH) to CRISIS's folder (the same place where WINCRIS.EXE is located) and rename it as BIOS.wph.
    3. Execute wincris.exe to start the Crisis Disk Build.
    4. Select Removable and click Start.
    5. Select Format Disk and click Start.
    6. When the Crisis Diskette is created successfully, you'll get "PLEASE REMOVE DISKETTE" message.
    7. Click OK to complete the process.
    8. Power Off failed system.
    9. Insert the Crisis Disk in to the USB floppy drive attached to the failed system.
    10. In the power-off state, press and hold Fn+Esc then press the Power button.
    - The system powers on and the Crisis BIOS Recovery process begins.
    - Release Fn+Esc after you see the notebook is reading the floppy disk.
    - BIOS Boot Block begins restoring the BIOS code from the Crisis floppy disk to BIOS ROM on the failed
systems. This will take time around 5 to 10 minutes. Do not interrupt or reboot the notebook even if you see there is no activity.
    - When the Crisis flash process is finished, the system restarts with a workable BIOS.

If created CRISIS disk in Windows 7, sometime WINCRIS.EXE failed to copy appropriate files. Make sure there are three files; minidos.sys, phlash16.exe & BIOS.WPH. If not, manually copy the file(s) to the CRISIS diskette.

Thanks :) Is there a boot block jumper inside the notebook? I'm afraid I will have to get to it. So, Imma get an external floppy drive to do it :) Thank you... I really wish there was a way to fix it using a pendrive

No, there is no boot block jumper inside your notebook. In the BIOS recovery mode, system boot up with minimum BIOS initialization. So, you can't freely choose which media you want to use for BIOS recovery. On some notebooks, boot block support USB flash drive/pen drive, while on certain notebooks, it only support floppy disk. You can check in your notebook service manual. It does mentioned to use floppy disk.

    BTW, good luck. ;)

Thank you :) What about a memory card reader (with a sd inside)?
