i couldn't agree with you, as i was reading phoenix docs ,every computer model is posible to recover bios on this methods... why you coudnt look here http s ://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Flashing_BIOS_from_Linux so then minimal bios initialization wont be problem
Well, I couldn't agree with you. That article doesn't mention about BIOS recovery, only about flashing BIOS from Linux.
I've been reading through this thread but I can't find a solution for my problem. I've got an Acer Aspire 7738g and after a presumable successful bios flash, it wouldn't start-up. I've got a black screen and the power led is on. So I've been reading about the bios recovery options. But I can't figure out the precise steps. And which files need to be on the usb-flash drive. In the folder I downloaded from the acer site there are like 2/3 files. Do I need to rename them? Which way I need to prepare the usb-flash drive for the bios recovery? Do I need Wincrisis or can I use the HP thingy? I really would appreciate it when someone could help me out.
I dun goofed! D: I bought a computer off of ebay with Windows Vista 32 to play around with. I upgraded to windows 7 32 and went to gateways website to download the drivers. Looking at the sticker on the bottom I saw Gateway NV53, most everything else worn off. I proceeded to go and download all the drivers for an NV53 and they worked perfectly for my system. I saved the bios for last and when I clicked update, my screen went dark and never turned back on again. I left for a couple of hours and came back and it was still in the same position so I turned it off. When I turned it back on, I hear a long single beep followed by two short beeps, the optical and power drive spinning. I went to gateway to see what the problem was and from my worn out SNID, they told me laptop was an NV56 not an NV53, and to seek local repair(The biggest difference between the two being the graphics card). I took it apart and found out it had a phoenix bios and started scourging the web. 5 days later, 12 CD-Rs and DVD-Rs later, its still in the same condition, the beeping signifying that its searching for a graphics ROM. The correct driver has a crisisdisk and the wincris application but neither of them have been able to make a good CD. The disk isos always work in virtual box but never when I boot them up on my other computer. The screen doesnt work because of the graphics and that just makes everyhting that much more complicated because I cant see anything I trying to flash this: Gateway NV56 and NV52 1.14 and I used this to flash it incorrectly before: Gateway NV53 1.04 Any help would be much appreciated as im losing hope and the repair costs are easily 2x the computers worth
Hello all, Long story short : ------------------- IBM X60 - Phoenix bios Black screen after bios upgrade Just one light on, and the HD and the SD lights on start up Long story very long : ----------------------- I have a completely dead (and unfortunately out of warranty) IBM X60. I was updating its bios to 2.18 which is the last one, using the CD, battery charged, AC plug in, the notebook was docked and I was using an external monitor and keyboard. Everything went fine during the update process, and in the final, it asked me to reboot the machine, i rebooted it and it hanged during post. I waited 20 minutes, no response, power button was not working, so I removed the battery, and now it's completely dead, no image, only one light, nothing, only hard drive running, and he HD and the SD lights on start up. Tests : -------- I tried Wincrisis with the right bios.wph ans various keys (Fn/Win/Ctrl + B/F/R/K/Esc/Home/End/Thinkvantage) but the USB key is NOT accessed (no light).... I tried undocked, with the AC plug, with AND without the battery. I've seen a post about the SD card, so I've done all the process above with a SD card (unfortunalety, I couldn't toggle it to bootable...). 24 hours after the first attempt, my X60 is still dead. Did I forget to do something ? Thanks for your advices. Cedric
*Facepalm* I dont know why I didnt remember this as I really only buy Acer products. Im running it now and my laptop is beeping like crazy. Ill edit the post with the results in 15 mins EDIT: My laptop has life! You just saved me $130-$900 in that post! You are a lifesaver! I cant thank you enough for this! Wahoo!
Thanks to this wonderful thread, I revived a co-workers dead Toshiba L500-02H today using the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk and a 512MB USB Key (as the bios was too big to fit on a floppy) and I can confirm it worked beautifully! I will note that I had to run the WINCRIS.EXE files as Administrator (using Windows 7) otherwise it would error, and that I used the instructions found at kizwan's post (#598) which consisted of: -Creating the Crisis disk on a USB Key using the WINCRIS.EXE program and the latest bios from Toshiba's support website (renamed the *.rom as BIOS.WPH) -Removing the battery and a/c power from the Laptop -Inserted the USB Key -Held down FN+B -Pressed power while continuing to hold FN+B for about 10 seconds -Released FN+B and waited -Took about 5 minutes (which seems like forever and that nothing was happening) and finally the machine shut down on it's own. -And that was it!! Powered the laptop back on, POST completed (twice) and the OS booted up!! This forum is a lifesaver! Thank you to all who contributed to it. I'm definitely bookmarking it for future reference.
Toshiba Satellite A210-MS5 PSAFGC-MS508C bios update failure REVIVED!! Thanks for this laptop-saver - it revived my (dead) laptop which got bricked when using Winflash from 1.70 to 2.0 bios from Toshiba website - after following all the instructions and killing all processes, AC power connected, etc. it still "died" with black screen and I know it did the update because the Satellite front edge logo was on (had it disabled in 1.70) - just DVD drive spinup, low power fan, and AC/battery lights on. Used the procedure from the original post (created usb flash drive with the files from the A215 procedure - same "worldwide" rom apparently) and with FN-F was thrilled to see the usb drive being accessed!! After a few minutes the system was "live" but strangely with original 1.30 bios (??) - who cares - it is now up and running!! Tried to reflash the 1.70 using Windows flash but it still shows the 1.30 bios (??) I know I shouldn't try to update but startup with 1.30 is twice as long, and at least I now have a working alternative to get back to original bios. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread - saved me at least $100 for an ASP to reflash the bios
Please try to understand for your own good kizwan you are unbeliever so your reversing logic is suitable only for , so if you couldn't understand it then . please read ,and read again until you get it. IMPORTANT is to UPDATE your LOGICAL thinking!!!! Maybe little picked you up when you were sleeping and then gerrneys flashd your brain. So when you got up your center for logic is freefing and wont boot up properly. Dont make me fill like you'll be and prove me that am wrong!!!!!!!!! wana bet ??? p.s. i do bets only with little aliens that control your brain. Come to the dark side am not yoda!!!!
I've now tried these methods with floppy and with USB stick, and none seem to work on my Lenovo Edge 13. Unless there is a new key combo that Lenovo is using that we are unaware of, the Fn + B; Fn + R; Win + R; Win + B; are not working. I even modified the autoexec file and removed the "/s" so its not silent and I hear no beeping. I had done this before with an HP and if you hear beeping you know for sure its working, but all I get is a fan spinning noise, and the lcd screen will not even light up its just dead dark.
