Revive an Asus G50vt-x1 Hey all, first I'm new here and I've read many many pages of this thread and cant' find my exact problem or remedy. I've got my wife's Asus G50VT-X1 that turns on the fan lights up all the eye-candy lights, kicks the hard drives, dvd then shuts down all in about 4 secs. I've tried creating a usb boot floppy disk with the AMIBOOT.ROM renamed using a stock v213 bios < latest for g50v to run win7 with no issues > tried dropping the file onto a 256m usb flash drive, and just a cd containing the file. All this to no avail, the ctrl + home keys, win + b, win + r, f2, f4, f7, esc or harsh language have no effect at all. Still just the 4 sec kickover even with the battery out, left sit for 24hours and various combinations of just AC power with key combos. The cause is my own stupidity which took a fast 180 from earning me loads of brownie points with my wife... It started when I did the 9800m to gtx 260 swap out with a known working G51vx laptop with a toasty mb. I've read extensively on if it were possible and since there were many successes and my 9800m was on it's last legs, been glitching and artifacting for weeks, I swapped the 2 cards and upgraded to the g51 fan. Here's where the drama started. Win 7 would only see it as a standard vga card, and no drivers from nvidia or asus would instal due to not having the correct hardware even though the correct device id was listed in the drivers. I got DOX drivers to instal but then windows would no longer boot, the same with modified inf drivers from nvidia. So I tried to re-install the 9800 but it had finally completely and utterly died as now the laptop won't even power on with that card installed. So I resorted to BIOS editing as I'm a fairly compentant hacker and code editor but not a pro. I extracted the gtx 260 code from the asus g51vx v203 bios and first I just replaced the 9800m code in the g50v v213 bios and left it at that. I flashed using ami's built in ezflash which went off without a hitch, successful and the laptop rebooted no prob but I had the same driver install issue. This time I used the same BIOS and again replaced the 9800m code with the gtx 260 code but I also changed the 213's option rom device id byte to reflect a gtx 260m instead of the 9800m for the hardware ID as my earlier modded bios had the appropriate code but still the hardware id of the 9800m which I read in a post that if a rom can't match a hardware Id to a peice of code then it won't execute. I did all this using a hex editor and MMtools 3.19 in which the only part of the rom I modified was the pci option rom pertaining to the graphics card. All the code verified spot on with no errors or corruption and when I flashed again it said it was successful.... and that was the last time my wife's laptop spoke to me. Now all it does is what was mentioned above. I've sent in a question to asus tech support but since I got this in dec of '08 I already know it's out of warrenty. Any ideas I haven't thought of would be very welcome and feel free to slap me for breaking a working laptop even though the vid was getting ready to die. Thanks in advance!
BIOS recovery method for HP Probook 4525s, and other Probooks. Hi, I have a HP Probook 4525s, which I recently bricked, and want to share my story on how i successfully recovered the BIOS. This should work for other Probooks. 1. Get a USB memory stick that is <= 4GB and format it to FAT (FAT16) in windows. (It doesn't work to use a larger memory stick formatted to FAT, or a memory stick formatted to FAT32) 2. Make this directory structure on the USB memory: \HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT\ 3. Download the Softpack with the BIOS update for your system from the HP website. Extract the spxxxxx.exe with winrar or a similar software, or run the program and look in the C:\SWSetup\spxxxxx\Rompaq\ directory for a file called 68XXX.bin (XXX differs on different systems). 4. Copy 68XXX.bin into the \HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT\ directory on the USB memory. 5. Open the archive C:\SWSetup\spxxxxx\Rom.cab and extract efibios.sig to the \HEWLETT-PACKARD\BIOS\CURRENT\ directory. Rename efibios.sig to 68XXX.sig (replace XXX with the same letters as in your 68XXX.bin). 6. Insert the USB memory stick into a USB port on your computer. While pressing Win+B, power up the system. 7. The Caps lock led will flash continously, and the computer will read the file from the USB stick. 8. In under a minute the system will shut down. Remove the USB stick. The system will power up again and immediatly shut down. The system will power up again, and you will be greeted with a screen that says the your BIOS was recovered. Hope this will help someone else! I couldn't find this informations elsewhere.

hi, somedoby tried to recovery samsung notebooks? Can confirm me than it not works? I tried all combination keys on my R519 and also shorting crisis pin, but I have no result. thanks.
Nevermind i see that asrock has the recovery procedure disable in bios on last mobo so i sent it back.
I have the exact same laptop and tried to load it with a modded BIOS with Slic v2.1. Everything went through OK, but the BIOS load screen hangs at about the 20% progress bar. Created the Floppy using the files from the first post (Method 2). Tried this to no avail. I bought a HP USB Floppy drive from eBay that works perfectly on my PC, loaded the original BIOS to a floppy disk using WinCrisis.exe. By simply pressing ESC I can get to I cannot get the recovery to occur by holding Win+F, FN+F, WIN+B or FN+B. Pressing F2 does nothing. When attempting this, is the screen meant to remain blank? I'm pretty certain this Laptop should be able to be recovered, it's turning on and doing something. I'm not new to computers, but BIOS recovery is new territory for me. I even have the Service Manual and am using the details in that to try to solve it... Link = tim.id.au/laptops/toshiba/satellite%20a100%20a105%20tecra%20a7.pdf Page F-1 explains the procedure. Anyone in the know able to shed some light? --EDIT-- OK, I can now get it into Crisis Recovery Mode and it beeps, but will not read the BIOS file from a USB. Nor will it spin up the floppy drive at all.
